Shaft and clutch

First time go-karter here. Removed a Yamaha snowmobile engine from the frame. Too much work for now. Hope to get that back up and running at some point, it should fly!

Had a 5hp engine from a pressure washer my neighbor gave me. The shaft does not look very long. Having never done this, how do I determine what shaft to use? Are there extensions? The clutch that was on the old shaft doesn't fit the new one. Where do I start?

It's a Honda GC160 or 190 and I had the same problem. I ended up buying a new crankshaft so that clutch would fit. Your current shaft is specific to that power washer.

The only way you'll be able to fit a clutch to that shaft is to put a spacer on before the clutch (so it clears the casing) then use an extension piece on the end of the shaft; for that length, I don't condone it...

Figures...you don't remember where you got it do you? This will probably be the hardest part of the job....

I don't recall but surprised me as to how inexpensive it was.
I'll check my receipts.

OK...I found it. Part #H-13310-ZL8-600.
I paid just under $30. Can run as high as $70+.
Got mine here:HONDA CRANKSHAFT
A 3/4" bore centrifugal clutch will fit. Hopefully, that is what you have.
Be forewarned...crankcase can be a real bear to split.

The shaft came while I was away on vacation. I havent pulled the crankcase apart yet, so I havent seen what I am working with yet. Either way, either end doesnt fit on the clutch we have. What clutch did you use? Might as well buy one that I know works!

Just an update, pulled crankcase apart and managed to change out shaft last week. Never worked on small engines before but slow and steady made it work! Got it all back together and engine wouldn't run. Forgot to set timing. Rookie mistake. Had to pull it all down again and set the timing. Runs good now.

Now to mount engine and work towards drivetrain! Thanks for the help!
