Series 44 clutch and big engine

I took delivery on my series 44 clutch late yesterday afternoon. I am working on the kart suspension so I can sit it down off the saw houses I am building it on so I can set the Kohler motor in place. I can see what might be a problem. This motor is BIG, and it may create a problem in mounting the jack shaft a reasonable distance from the driver. I would think the closer, the better, as long as it is a distance on the chart. Am I correct?

Okay. Now to the nitty gritty. Can I frabricate a plate for the Series 44, much like the smaller TAV units, where the one ens of the Driven is supported by this plate? I would suspecrt that it would work just fine. I think a flange bearing mounted on this plate would support one end of the jack shaft. I have never seen a TAV, so do not know how it is supported. This would simplify mounting a jack shaft by not having to use two pillow blocks, with the accompying mounting system. I sat the motor on the frame today, and am going to have to use the shortest T.C. belt because of the size of the Kohler 18 HP magnum motor, and the frame I built to support it.
