Hi all
I'm taking apart My recent purchase to clean up and ran into a spiralox retaining ring that I can NOT get off.

Any suggestions appreciated on getting this ring off?

I haven’t run into a clip like that before. Looks frustrating. When you do get it off can it be replaced by one like this?
I think I paid $40 for a retaining snap ring pliers. Probably the most expensive tool I own. Lol

It was mangled after taking it off. I'm an *** bc I knew I should have been using clamps to take the pressure of the spring off and waited until it was too late. I bought one from I believe comet kart along with garter springs (maybe a mistake at 3600rpm) new green spring, buttons (IMPOSSIBLE TO INSTALL). It's not back together yet b/c I keep saying I already went this far, may as well upgrade more! New carb, intake, Header, Wheel bearings, Brakes, and rear tires. Now I can't get her to run right. Anything less then full choke it stalls out. You got the Channel lock pliers didn't you? Lol. I've become a frequent visitor of Harbor Freight the last month. I've got more tools then an apprentice in every trade. lol

Ya Channel Lock. Most of my tools are Harbor Freight. Not sure why I good snap ring pliers? I probably used them 2 or three times.

Sounds like intake leak or carb jetting if you need full choke. Best way I found to check for intake leak is to get it running then spray some starting fluid around the intake adapter/gaskets and listen for change in rpm. Don’t spray down the air horn or through the filter, just around the back side of the carb. If the spray makes its way in, it will change the mixture air/fuel ratio and should cause an audible change in RPMs.

If no intake leak, then jetting or other carb/fuel delivery stuff.

I returned them and went to Harbor freight and bought more tools for the same price as the channel locks

As stated, if the carb leak and jetting is not the problem Also Check the throttle spring, if it was ”bent” when removing the carb, that could be an issue, I’ve had this happen to me 3 times and took me a while to figure it out. If they get bent it will not want to run except on choke to half choke, switch to run and it engine dies.

Thanks, I've no clue how they look stock to know if it's bent. I'll have to try to find a picture of the setup.

All good, that’s why all of us are here to seek and give knowledge and helping everyone. What can happen is when you go to pull the “hooked” end of the spring out of the hole from the plastic part on top of the butterfly, it can get bent out of shape and throw everything off.
