Now put some thin pieces of wood on the sides to make a comfortable hand grip.

So, I found a piece of oak, left over from a project from ~20 years ago

...& cut a 1" strip off of it

Rounded the edge, with a router

...then, did the other side

...& then, some fittin' & trimmin

Next step was some sandin' (smoothin' & roundin')

...then, applied some stain (also from ~20 years ago)

Love the color
...&/so, here is a close up view

...but, I come across them every now & then & pick 'em up

Also, added some Satin clear (ta seal 'em up)
...after preppin' 'em for the connectin' hardware

While the clear, on the hand grips, was dryin', I did some cleanin' on the steerin' wheel (left handle, so far)
...usin' an ultra fine Scotch-Brite pad & some WD-40

...& then, some polishin'

After lettin' the clear dry overnight, I started putin' 'er together

Hand grips installed, on the clean-n-shinny "wheel"

Oh yea!, I even "worked" the imaginary clutch while I "went thru" the imaginary gears

But

Once installed, I noticed a bit of a clearance issue with the A-pillars

So, Ima thinkin' that Ima have ta, probably add a little more bend, to the steerin' wheel
...ta bring them hand grips inwards & away from them pillars a bit more
