Semi-auto or manual?

I was looking at engines to purchase in the 125-150cc range and the seller recommended me to purchase a semi-auto with reverse rather than manual clutch? As I'm still a newbie, I have a lot of questions in my mind, and right now its: semi-auto or manual?

Most likely going to be on a shifter or a gokart to be used onroad

I'd really call that a personal preference thing. I'm a manual kinda guy.
