I need to get some brakes on my superdart. It looks like it originally had hydraulic brakes but all of the brake hardware is missing and I'm looking for options for brakes that wont break the bank. I really hate to spend $100-150 but if I have to, I will.
My first problem is the caliper and how to mount it. My axle is 1 inch and uses those round 3 hole bearing flanges that bolt to the frame. There is no hard mount for the caliper. Years ago I saw a caliper mount for sale cheap which was flat steel cut out kind like this shape 8C where the C is where it bolts to the flange around the axle and the 8 is the bolt holes for the caliper. Where could I find this part? Are all calipers a standard size?

What about the size of brake disks? I was thinking about going with mechanical brakes, but still don't have a caliper mounting option for that either. Looking for reasonable options.

I did a search with "go kart brake caliper mounting bracket" and got a whole bunch of sites. I think you'll find something useful.

Your going to need to provide more info on the calipers as the make/model...pics.... So we can give a better feedback...

OK,I did some research on this. I was thinking about installing a MCP or Airheart hydraulic system. I've attached as a pic the caliper mount I think would work on my kart as it attaches to the axle flange without welding. Problem is, can't find a place in the US that sells it. Found one dodgy website that listed it, but not sure if they do or not.

Here's an URL to one possible choice. http://www.2040-parts.com/vintage-go-kart-vintage-margay-caliper-mounting-bracket--i2309782/

Here's another possible pic.

Looks like BMI karts have the caliper mount brackets, but only fit 1.25 inch bearing hangers whereas I have a 1inch axle. Maybe it would still fit with modification. As for the mechanical calipers, I cannot tell if they can mount the same way as the hydraulic ones.

Airheart is what came on a SuperDart.
The caliper mount is a separate piece.
Greg Gouvella makes them and sells them on eBay in the vintage kart section.

You can buy a complete kit from Airheart.

Keep in mind that with an Airheart caliper only one side moves so your disc needs to float.
To save a few bucks you could buy the $179 kit and use the aforementioned bracket if you want a dual piston caliper.

Alternatively, you can get a drum brake set up that bolts right on from Azusa.
The only drawback is if you really use your brakes hard repeatedly the drum can overheat and bellmouth.
The current drums aren't as good as the old ones.
