ok im gouing to build a kart/buggy using an older snowmobile motor, and was wondering if anybody has ever just put their secondary clutch directly on the axle? im gonna use all teh drive parts from the sled, and the secondary has a 1" keyed bore. if i ran 22" atv tires, id have clearance, but just wondering if anybody else has done this and ran into other problems....

I asked this "?" last year and was told that it would be a bad idea. If I rember these were the reasons. The TC driven ( secondary ) are not build to have direct axle load on them, pluse the weights in the driver ( primary ) can get messed up, also i think it would be to much load on belts. That is all I can rember. I never tryed it, I took everyones word on it.

yup, and you cant fix the rduction problem by simply putting a sprocket on the engine then chain to another sprocket on the driver because then the tc wont have enough rpms to engage.

You will find with a sled engine and such large tires, you will most likely have to run a double jackshaft setup. Secondary on axle will not give you enough gear reduction to move.
