I purchased this rolling chassis yesterday from an auction. I paid thirty five dollars for it. It has a live axle :). I plan on a Predator 212cc engine, 30 series torque converter and getting rid of the 72 tooth sprocket in favor of a 40 tooth and a nice comfy seat. This will be a budget build as much as possible. I sanded as much of the old 4 layer paintjob as possible and painted it flat black. Looks good at 20 feet

Looks like yet another American Express; nice score

Edit: On closer inspection, I'm almost 100% positive it's a Manco American Express. Apart from the overall shape & construction, the front suspension gives it away. I'm soooo jealous right now...

Yea I couldn't determine the make due to all the paint and lack of stickers. I wasn't leaving the auction without it. Im not looking to build a show winner, just something fun to ride around

I agree. The build is not going to be a real budget build unless you steal the TC. They are expensive. :D :D

I found a kit on ebay for $134 bucks. Its a no name. Claims are that it replaces the 30 series Comet. I want it to be able to use on asphalt and dirt, grass and whatnot, otherwise I would just get a clutch

I have a question. If I put a 40 tooth drive sprocket and a 12 tooth clutch sprocket, that would give me a ratio of around 3:1. With 13 inch diameter tires and some off roading, would a clutch hold up? I see Northern Tool and Tractor Supply have some around 50 bucks. I know you get what you pay for, but I'm just looking at a short term fix for riding.

So this thing has sat for seven months now. I finally went and bought a HF clone, a chain and a clutch today. I need to mount this stuff up now. I may be riding this thing by next year lol

I don't know honestly. I got the engine on and the chain set up. The brake does not work at all. I need to run the throttle cable, fix the brake and make a seat. Oh and wire up a kill switch. Also aired up the tires and watched the dry rotted tires stretch themselves out. Add four tires to the list as well. It's gonna cost another couple hundred just to get her riding

After four new tires and inner tubes and the beginning of the seat. I'm not sure if I wanna cover the seat or just paint the wood. It's not too bad of a ride like this. According to a few runs with the cellphone GPS, I average about 25mph on this little Kart.

So far
Frame $35
Paint $10
Engine $140 w/ext warranty
Clutch and chain $66
Tires and tubes $150
Seat material $19
Misc hardware $7
Throttle cable $6
Kill switch $4
Brake $28 shipped

Puts me about $465 dollars for this Kart.

use a nice thick chunk of high density furniture type foam for the seat bottom, and a thinner piece for the back rest. probably could use medium density for the back rest, but you will want high density for the seat bottom for sure. will give the seat a little more spring, weight resistance, and shock absorption.

So I found a site called OMB warehouse right outside of Philly. They are awesome. Cheap prices and quick shipping. So I ordered a header, air filter brake band and brake drum. The drum is not the correct one as mine is flanged and this one is a bolt on. It was only 5 bucks so I'm not too worried about it, but I digress. Still need to finish the seat and I am going to remove the engine and move the mount backwards so I can reinstall the tank on the engine. Looks like crap this way to me. Here is a pic

Here is the conundrum I'm having. Here is a pic of the original drum and a pic of the new one. According to what I have seen online, the one I ordered was supposed to be the one I needed. I cannot find the flanged drum anywhere

I believe it is one piece. When I start getting this thing apart, I'll see what I have to do to make it work

kartkiller - what did you do with the images that you posted in your first post last year. They were in your photobucket album. Have you deleted them? We now have some ugly "SORRY - THE PERSON HAS MOVED OR DELETED THIS IMAGE" tags. Please could you put them back or repost. We hate to lose good info on this forum
