Installing a 5qt. Chilton tank on the back of the seat. I found this fuel level tube setup I thought might be a good idea. What have others done for these tanks?

Given the price of a Chilton tank, I personally wouldn't drill any holes in it that it didn't come with.
I use a stick like a mini version of the ones you check gas in the ground at a gas station.
Cut a stick about 6" taller than the tank.
Add gas a qt. at a time and scribe a line.
Old school but it works.

I made a gas tank out of an old oxygen bottle. I'd love to have a sight glass type gauge. But I used a power steering neck for the tank and it came with a dipstick. I tacked on an extension. It works just fine. Either I need to put gas or I don't.

Guess I'm of the dipstick crowd.

Chrome on the Chilton was corroded so I cleaned it up and painted it. I’m putting a return line in from the pulse pump so drilling a hole is no big deal. But the more I think about it the better the dipstick idea sounds. Here’s the tank in position.

Where the fuel line comes out the bottom end of the tank, put a Tee fitting. Bottom side port of the Tee fuel line runs to the motor. Side port goes to the tube for the "fuel gauge" , zip tie it to the back of the seat frame. Top side of Tee goes into the bottom of the tank.
