Scrap pile kart

I finally decide to start building a kart from the parts I have been collecting for the past 12 years. I am building a front suspension kart from the scrap pile at work. Will be using the necessary store bought items but will make the whole frame and what not from scratch. I have cut some pieces for the main frame but have focused on my front suspension setup. Here is a pic of what I have so far. Will be finishing the upper shock mount next week.

Got some more time in the shop today. Finished up my front suspension section. Came out pretty good. If my calculation is correct it should sit parallel to the ground with the weight of the kart.

Thanks jittles. When I put it together today, it was only about a 1/32" to 1/16" off. Not too bad for hand made.

I have a old h60 tecumseh that I was planning on using. It has a 12 tooth centrifugal clutch already on it and I have a 72 tooth axle sprocket. As I build it, it keeps getting heavier. I think that I may be looking for a different power plant or at least a TC. We will see I will build the cart and then decide.

I am thinking of doing a kind of live axle/single wheel option setup. I will show a picture when I get it laid out. I would like to have the option depending on my terrain. Has anyone run a straight axle and only drove one wheel?

Only got a few things done this week. Too busy at work for personal projects. Got the seat sliders mounted and cross members in place. Also got the seat mounting plate made just need to weld it to the cross members. Also made some tie rods. Slowly but surely coming along.

Got my seat mounted to the sliders. Also got my crossmembers welded and the engine stands welded in place. Just have to drill my slots to mount the engine.
Next step is fabricating and placement of the steering/control panel support.

Got my slots drilled for the engine. Got my steering wheel and shaft in place. Pedals are in place as well. Coming along.

Got my steering setup yesterday. Took some trial and Emerson to find the right length for my pitman arm but finally got it. Both spindles turn at the same angle when the wheel locks. Just have to weld the arm in place then onto the drive axle.

Got some more work done this week. Got the motor mounted with converter in place. Got my throttle linkage setup to the pedal. Placed the axle and attached the drive sprocket. Got the hex axle shafts cut and bored. Next step is attaching hex axles then working on the brake linkage. Then should be pretty close to a test run before stop down and paint. Still thinking about making a dingo type rear roll bar/cage.

Had a little time today to work on the kart. Got my chain fitted and my axles attached. Still have my brakes to setup but getting close.

Brakes are in! So close to a test run. Have to put my floor board in and attach the brake cable to my pedal.

Go my roll bars welded in this week. Attached my seatbelt. Just need to fabricate a chain guard and mount my new carburetor then ready for a test run.

Took my test run inbetween all the rain. I weighed the kart prior and it weighs 278# ready to go. Then I am another 200#. Surprisingly moved well for a 6hp but I found out quickly that a 3/4" scrap pile shaft will not suffice.
I ordered the parts to upgrade the drivetrain to 1" and a #40 chain setup. Will hopefully have it back up and running next week for another test run.
