So with the weather deciding to go for the low 40's my whole week off, I decided to start a little project. The goal: Build a mini bike/bobber with crap I have laying around, and spend as little money as possible. So far I've collected parts from several pieces of old lawn machinery, bikes, and exercise equipment. Here's a peek at the general idea, and progress on the frame so far.

nice . not enough people utilize old bicycle frames thats for sure. I use them for everything. Looks like a solid start. im intrested to see how the vertical shaft engine holds up. You might want to put an oil dipper on the crank

Good eye! The first thing I did was remove the oil slinger/gov assembly, and bolt a dipper onto the rod. Need to clearance the crankcase a bit though.

Sweet! Looks like I may have started a trend .....

Please do keep us informed on the build. Are you going to try and make it a low rider, with the seat almost down on the rear wheel?

Is it just me or is that top beam floating?
Did u just balance it on the top of the sparkplug really well or did u photoshop that in?

Your using a vertical engine? Is that even going to work running in that position? If i tip my push mower forward the oil comes out of it and messes the engine up. Im interested in seeing how well it works, cooling and oil wise. That top bar has me amazed. How is it staying there?

also, im interested in seeing how the forks will owrk with those wheels. It looks like the wheel will be too close to the frame unless you modify something.

The toptube is balanced on the spark plug. The engine should work fine, the only difference internally is that it had an oil slinger, now replaced with a rod dipper. The original dipstick hole has been blocked, and the oil drain will serve as the new filler hole.
There's no reason the front end won't function, the wheel isn't going to get closer to the frame when you turn.

have you ever tipped it back wards though??? it runs, doesnt bog out.... never had any problems with it tilted back when cutting tall grass... when it starts to choke out... ya know?

Yes good point. It only dumped oil all over itself when i tipped it forward to clean it out. If i tip it back, it continues to work just fine.. But prolonged peeriods of being tipped back? Cant wait to see.

thats only because the carb isnt getting gas. If he puts a different carb on that wont be a problem.
the cooling wont be a problem only the oil. Since he put a dipper in it that should be fine and the oil fill is solved. the only thing left is the pcv thingey. if that doesnt puke oil then it should work

I modified a Tecumseh intake to go out next to the exhaust like a normal Briggs 5hp Flatty. The breather looks exactly the same as the one on my other Briggs, so it should be OK.
Keep forgetting to upload this pic, progress as of a couple days ago. Been busy working on my truck so not much since.

what i was trying to say, is when your mowing your lawn after you havent touched it in a while...(say a month) the grass is to tall to cut even on the highest setting... so you either have to weed eat... or go at it with the lawn mower... well, eventually to much grass builds up under the mower, and starts to kill the mower, so you push the handle to the ground, and it spits all the crap out...

thats what i was trying to say, i dont have problems with it running tipped back like that...
