update! so over the past few days i have bean re-arranging the steering, i now have Ackerman! i also lowered the steering ratio, but because of the changes i actually have a tighter turning radius! can't wait to drive this thing. oh yea i made my chain tensioner spring loaded too. sry some are blurry

so what do you guys think? i put in some spacers, upgraded bolts (needed to be done), plugged that hole in the frame, and welded on another 2" of 5/8" rod on to the steering shaft so it sticks out of the steering block so i can put the locking collar there(pic4), as long as weather/ home work cooperates tomorrow i will see how my ratio change has affected the quick steering, judging from the ditches in my gravel drive way its working great! and yes i did put the bolt back on the throttle pedal.

p.s. in the winter i'm buying a longer axle, bigger sprocket, and some big atv wheels, :stir: :D

EDIT: jm- i wish i had kept a list of the problems for you to look out for, but drill the pitman arm, and the spindle arms out to 3/8" assuming you buy the suggested tie rods, also i would strongly suggest you setup the steering the way i have, vs the way in the plans.

One nice big, wide mudder in the back and two smaller ones up front will have you flying through the snow.

hmmmmm, are you saying 2 atv tires up front, and one 16x8, tire in the rear, you sure thats enough traction? defiantly cost saving, but won't look as cool as 4 wheels, i'm thinking the trail wolf tire and rim combo from bmi for 28 bucks

Too wide in the rear and you'll bend your axle if you go with two tires outside the frame. I was thinking about doing one in where you have it but with big treads. Out make a bolt on tread so it's like a mini snowmobile tread. Get a small car winter tire and cut out the walls and make some type of drive system for it.

Or anything from this page that fits in the rear tire area.

so i drive the kart today, the steering is much improved, i can now make a u-turn in the street, and go over bumps without, well i guess you could say without bump steer, the steering is also slowed down so i don't have to deal with it bouncing all over the place anymore. one thing is that it makes a loud noise when i'm coasting, maybe it makes the same noise all the time, but i can only hear it while coasting, also the kart doesn't seem as fast. so i think think either the chain tensioner is too tight, the first chain is too loose, which either of those would cause extra resistance, and that would cause the tc to not wan't to shift properly, what are your thoughts? maybe its time to lube the clutch? i prob only have like an hr or two on it.

EDIT: i think the sprocket on the tensioner may be rubbing the side of the chain, could this be the problem.

How wide of a tire can you drop in there and still have your sprocket and brakes lined up?

well i can prob squeeze a 10 or maybe 12" wide tire in there, i got an 8" right now, the limiting factor is that i can prob only fit a 16" dia at most

i just took some measurements and it seams that if i were to move the jack shaft to a different location, mount the tc in a different position, and a few other repositioning of things i could get a 12.5" wide, maybe 20" dia tire in there, which isn't bad. i would have to remove pretty much all the hardware from the back, but thats not a huge deal.
