got some work done today, a few days ago i cut out the floor pan, cleaned up all the weldments and made a master cylender monting bracket. today i welded on the engine mounting plate, welded in the rear bearing hangers and the swing arm hinges, i also did a slight mock-up. my little lincoln actually welded the 1/4" steel with excelent penetration, i just had to turn down the wfs until you could barely strike an ark, lol.

I like it. May I suggest a MM 252? I just welded with it on Friday at school and OMG! My teacher cut up some 1/2" plate and was messing around with it. Then he gave me a turn on that beast. It was amazing. I was welding together 1/2" plate with ease. I so want one.

sounds like great fun , i gotta tell you though i was pretty happy when i saw that my little lincoln had left a heat signature on that bearing hanger that covered the whole thing!

OK, well over the past several days i have been accumulating nuts, bolts, washers, springs, cotter pins, ect, then drilling little holes or "adjusting" hardware so it fits, the store didn't have enough 5/16" lock-nuts, so i have just been using lots of Teflon tape with normal nuts, works pretty darn well. I'm in school now so I'm moving pretty slow, paint came out decent, its not professional or anything but I'm happy. tomorrow is a half day of school wai so hope fully i can finish things up by then. i started up the subie today, its about 10 times easier to start than my lawn mower(2yr old could start this thing!), i don't bother with the choke, slowly (compared to the required lighting-fast speeds required to start my mower) without really any resistance, and the thing just pops to life, not slowly sputters to life, i just pull and its idling!(e-start on this engine is a waist of $$, see below vid, i could easily start this thing with a camera)how easy are those hf engines to start? relatively easy, (i have never owned an hf, or an ohv, or an ohc engine before so i don't know what the normal amount of effort required is), unfortunately i can't floor it yet cause its not currently bolted down, the gtc tc is also in working order! i hope to get a vid up here between now and the weekend.

p.s. jm, if you need any measurements, pics from certain angles, ect, just ask and i will be glad to help!(also pleases note i have changed a few things) what are you planning for your scorpion build???

My planning are to reproduced as closely as possible the model of this picture,I'll maybe add an adjustment for the seat and steering wheel,for my son,(even if he lacks little to reach me.)

but I can't do not start my project before 2 months....lack of space

was really hoping to get almost all of it done today, but i had several problems with part/hardware that needed to be "re-fabricated", hope fully i will have the complete rear setup tomorrow, in fact to marrow is fri so i may finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jm, how tall is your son, how tall are you? i'm roughly 5ft 8in and i have to bend my legs a bit to fit in it but its nice and comfy! i would suggest getting a better seat. i don't think you should have too much trouble with changing that around to fit in 2 wheels. only major problems you may encounter would be having to do with suspension, i bet you with decent travel that gas tank hits the back of the kart on big bumps! and those wheels are extremely close to the engine! those problems can be fixed easily though. i would suggest you look over the plans and really think about what adjustments need to be made, then change the measurements before you cut up a bunch of metal. use your brain!!!!!!!! also you mine as well start a thread!

p.s. that curved piece(lots of time spent there ), and those miter cuts in the plans aren't easy(more time here to), my miter cut didn't come out well so i just made a rather large weld (stitch weld???? then welded normally over that)

5ft 9in and my son a little less.
The nose of the kart will be more longer,I want the most possible adjustment.
For the suspension, I think use 4 shocks like this

i think you and your son should fit fine as-is, but you can change it if you want. is that a roll cage????? if so you need to make it taller and re-enforce it a bit, i don't think its really necessary, but you can do it if you want, where will you be ridding???

bahh, it sells for about 350 to 500 retail, i got it new for 250(just missed getting it for 200, 9hp price was brought down to 275, after i bought this one for 250) i like my subie! (i can give you a link if you want)
i worked on it today, i noticed the gtc tc gets pretty hot, is this common with tc? (if this is answered already don't bother answering) also the bolt that hold the driver to the engine pto keeps coming loose(is it just because the threads in the crank shaft are threaded in the wrong direction? or maybe its just vibrating loose?), any suggestions, i have tightened it a lot, but....... well it a long story but from the size of the cut on my hand, i'm not too inclined to tighten it again. lol
