saw an ad for a tube bender, 250$ said it has 8 dies, no pics, after contacting him found out the seller had no way to even send me a pic, guess that steered a lot of people away... knowing dies are pricey items I talked him down to 200$, (CHEAPER JOEL!) to make sure even if it wasn't all that great i might still get a deal, and took the risk driving a couple hours away to see it... at sighting knew it's old for sure, but saw that it was mostly complete and would do most of what i need, but then i got home and found the same exact benders around 3000$ +/- on ebay! if the seller was researching it he got no info because he thought it was a "walker" bender, when it's a parker 824... jaw hit floor... i don't know all that much about brands of benders, just that i've been wanting a jd squared hydraulic unit, what to do? keep this fine bender, though hard to do not yet being anchored to floor it did a perfect 180 degree bend on 1 1/4" .125" tube, or sell this for the 3000$ and buy a hydraulic unit with full die set?... here's some pics of my biggest score in years! anybody else luck out lately? not a kink, ripple, crease, or mark.... it's... it's.... beautiful.... puts my torch bends to shame! lol

Me- you...... I would stick with what you have now. You already made the trip and looks like you are ready to bend. Great bend by the way, looks like you just made a headrest type roll bar.

So yeah.. got a bender for cheap? good for you... (yes I'm a bit jealous)

shoot and i thought all that noxema was gonna pay off.... ... trying to figure out how to resize them, been copying url and pasting to ad a pic thing... though good at some stuff cpu stuff unfortunately isn't on the list... only problem i see with this bender is after more late night research the 1 1/4" .125 wall tube is about it's limit, has a 4:1 drive ratio, it was designed more for copper, aluminum, and annealed steel, though it has a 1 1/2" die that the clamp and follow bars are missing for (the missing pieces found for 300$ :/) and that once it's anchored down it'll be easier to put mass torque on, worried about possibly fracturing housing... it is pretty heavy duty, but still cast material... my requirements go up to 2" .250 tube to become a permanent member of my garage... like the JD model 32... not complainin though, a killer deal, and will work great for cart stuff till then!

Hey Joel,
I have been searching fora year now on my local CL. now for a bender.
I see a lot of these conduit benders.
I looked and this one supposedly does 1/2, 3/4 ,and 1"
any thoughts about these types?

unsure of exactly which conduit bender you're looking at, the problem with most conduit benders is they're only designed to bend soft thin tubing and will never have the leverage or power (if it's non-manual) to bend tubing substantial enough to make a cart or minibike frame from, also how it's acomplishing the bend is in question a bender like the one i'll put up a pic of (pic 1) is not "rolling" the tube around a die, it more or less uses the floor, i'd think rigid tube would kink as there'd not be enough pressure holding the tube to the die as the bend is made... now i'm seeing something like this (pic 2)... it could do a good bend, if you could get enough leverage out of the handle... the bender i picked up is designed for hydraulic tube, it's not the most ideal bender for structural tubing, but it will work for small diameter applications, i can get it to bend a max size of 1 1/4" od .125 wall steel tube, that's putting a ton of pressure on handle, plus it has a 4:1 gear drive helping it, the conduit bender pictured has no gear reduction, no idea of how big of tubing it could bend, could always extend the handle for more leverage, but could the bender handle it? a pic of the one you're looking at would help... the third pic is of a cat in space, no real idea why....

I've used a 1" Conduit (EMT) bender to bend 3/4" black iron pipe. Max bend you'll get is 90 degrees. 3/4" black iron pipe is just over 1" OD. It takes some effort and you often need a long piece to have on the floor to keep the bender from coming off the floor during the bend. Conduit benders are designed to bend 1 size smaller pipe than their rated conduit size.

Its not as bad as it seems. Its usually the last 10 degrees that get you. Then you think you gave yourself a hernia.

I got smart and have a JD2 model 32 now.

thanks nick! new co-workers were shocked when the boss asked me to stay for overtime on the second day today! as for the bender, it might work, unsure, never used one like that, greenlee is a good name brand, try to get him down to 100$, or 120$, if it works, great! if not you can still clean it up and get your $ back, maybe even turn a profit! there's always the harbor freight style "pipe bender" that's what i was going to get before i found tube bender on CL, there's a few tricks and mods guys are doing plus filling tube with sand and capping ends, to make decent bends, seen video's on youtube
