A car alternator might be a bit big unless u get one off a small 4 cylinder motor like a mazda 323 or something. Then again motorcycle parts are more expensive then car parts since not as many people chuck out motorbikes as they do with cars ie not as many people crash motorbikes. You should be able to get an alternator for about 20 dollars or less. Like i said before dont expect it to pump out amazing power. Its either for trickle charging the battery up or for running low wattage lights. It will probabaly only give out like 2-5A. Its enough though.

Not really...Alternator puts out some serious Amps (depending on rpm and the model) , it's the regulator (don't know the exact term on English) that deals with that (as well with voltage fluctuation) in order not to fry various components in the car and not to kill the car battery.
