Hi
I am 17 years old and have a major school project to prepare for, I am wondering what you guys would think of a kit designed for father and son's to build.

It would be aimed at first time kit builders with little practical skills, so the frame would be fully welded its more of an assembly kit than a building project. Maybe using the idea from Meccano, where you only need one tool to assemble the projects, but you still end up with something worth while.

I was just wondering if you thought this kinda of thing would work obviously you guys know about Go Karts but other ride on types of thing maybe Go-Ped? or Mini Bike? whatever you think will work.

thanks for your time and any ideas are much appreciated

Sam. :cheers2:

sounds cool, would you try and sell them or something? not sure how well the 1 tool idea would work, but making it easy to assemble with basic tools would be good (not too tough to do). if you plan to sell them you would probably want a few things,
-simple frame design, strong, looks good, easy to construct, lightweight, doesn't use a ton of materials.
-features people want, choose your engine, good brakes, stable, fits kids and adults
-also make stuff cheep. probably a few more things you would want to include too.

yes, frame was scratch built for sch40 1/2" steel pipe. exhaust manifold, seat, rear sprocket hub, and the gas tank were also scratch built. all based off a photo from a popular mechanics article from the 60's i think?

Nice project, looks like the kinda thing i am look to design and build.

Well pretty much i have a problem that i wish to solve, i choose the problem that in previous generations fathers and sons would fix up old cars and this would pass on practical skills. however this doesn't happen anymore. so i am going to design a kit for father and sons to build together and then they have something they can take out and use together. I have to design it to be a product ready to sell, but i will just hang on to mine once its finished what ever i end up with :).

cheers for the idea's as well think i am going to go down the road of a pre-welded frame to keep it simple.

cheers Sam.
