I went through a fence on skis once! Too many shots of blackberry brandy on the ski lift, I suppose. :surrender:

Oh, BTW, not that anyone probably cares; but, there is only one 'R' in 'scariest'. I missed my calling of being an English Teacher! Oh well, I'm studying Pharmacy now...

Hey Blaz, what is the fastest kart that you have driven?

Really don't know man, old dual Mac 10 kart, tag 125cc, the problem I have is the business is in a really unfortunately shaped parking lot due to the fact that we are in a business park instead of being standalone like the track was. We see fast karts and they're obtainable but we rarely have a place to ride them. I've hopped in a shifter or two but the only thing I ever have a chance to do is donuts. I'd rather not be run over by motorists during business hours because I know they're not looking out for me, I have the responsibility of my own life and avoiding them.

Don't think I've capped over 100, I believe the quickest may or may not have driven a kart was 70-90 on an unnamed road. I refuse to operate the had held wind driven speedometer when I'm going over 45, it takes too much away from complete control of the kart/bike, so unless I get clocked by a boy in blue one day I still have no exact numbers. You've touched on something I've been talking about for a while now, this is something I'd feel would be a fair investment for a bachelor party or a birthday party, rent out a race track. Grab some fast cars and some fast go-karts and do runs with my buddies for a few hours.

I'm told a decade ago we had one customer order one of the custom Magnum dual engine karts we build in the shop with dual West Bend 820's geared for massive torque, the kart would top out around 70 with viscous power. I'd really like to ride that kart, its not so much about top speed for me anymore as it is getting to 40-50 as fast as possible.

On a side note more on track for this thread, this was not on a kart but on a Mini-Baja that we'd just put a torque converter and some mods on when they first came out around 2005. Riding a bike in the rain or after its rain never really scared me too much since these were mini-bikes and not a big bike, no helmet, no jacket, etc. Not too lucky for me, someone had washed their truck in one of the businesses next to us which placed a bit of oil/grease/dirt on the pavement where it had just been damp before. I hit that spot heading back to the shop on one of the last runs just blowing off some steam, lost control of the front wheel for a moment so I compensated and jammed the brake which ended up in me leaning into a complete sliding 180 which must have looked like something out of a Bond or Jason Statham movie. It got an applause from a few employees from the Stereo Shop next to us that were watching. That was seriously frightening, I had the vision of serious road rash across the entire right side of my body if I were to slide on the parking lot going 40 wearing a t-shirt. Somehow I ended up just standing straight up to a full stop facing the other direction. This really taught me the lesson to respect the roads even more on vehicles when it has rained, people drive stupid in the rain and it results in people getting severely injured, that won't be me if I can help it, just never thought a "toy" could cause that much potential damage. We should never lose the respect for motorized vehicles even when they may have 3-7HP, its still more than enough to cause fantastic damage.

I was actually laughing out loud. You must have smelled awful.

It was fairly dry compost, lots of leaves and stuff mixed in. I got by with some accumulation of coffee grinds and minor unidentifiable black material. It all brushed off easy :).

I know this is an old thread, but this is an old story too.

Back some time when i was 12, i had just finished my first cart. the roll cage consisted of a 1" inner diameter pipe bent in a u in my Dads vice, needless to say it was insufficient. the power plant was a 12hp *Tecumseh i believe* and was geared a little high, top speed was around 40mph and it felt more like 90. me and my brothers had set up a nice little dirt track in the back but we hadnt really cleared it all that well and there was around 4feet of half buried barbed wire across one point of the track, needless to say i ran it over. it somehow wrapped its self around the drive axle and whipped me in the back several times, feeling the intense pain i swerved to the right into a half buried stump at about 30mph sending me rolling end over end a few times landed upside down, probably concussed and in pretty serious pain. fixed the cart up, and was riding it around later that night.

Daughter flipped Kart (Manco Dingo) on side and pinned arm between roll cage and ground. Gladly ... not broken... only bruised and swolen... thank God.

Karting still a safe activity in relative terms. Freak occurance while doing donuts on dry lakebed. She had presence of mind to flip kill switch! Smart girl! Scary, but no terrible outcome.

Kart tire popped off. Fixed with a blast of air.

Back in kart soon as feeling better! Best remedy for a spill.

Not that many scary things have happened to me on my go kart. My friend did crash my kart through a fence once though. Or once, when I was taking the tire off my kart, I was stupid enough to not deflate the tire, so as soon as I got to end off the last screw... FOOM the bolt shot off and almost hit my hand. Not dangerous, just sudden.

Ok my friend brought his kart to my house and thought it would be a good idea to tie a rope on the back for my buddy to ride his bike behind. I watched this all happen from the end of the street: My buddy on the bike ate it and is getting dragged on his bike while the kart is spinning out of control. My friend on the bike is running down the street with blood everywhere. End of story he ends up with 8 stiches in his rist. you could see the bone and muscle.
2 hours later...

My friend who didnt get hurt wanted to ride down to a neighbor kids house. So I volunteer to ride beside the engine. We get to my neighbors house safely, then we want to go see some neighbor girls in our class. We started showin off like teenage boys. I was driving and my friend was riding along the engine. He fell off and got dragged probably at 20mph. His leg is gashed open. 12 stiches. Same doctor of the other friend, who got 8, to a grand total of 20 stiches in one day! This all happened in one day. We also named the kart 'The Demon'. You really have to respect a go kart ment for 1 person. Dont try to fit two.

Probably the most scary moment is when my kart. (has a TC) the throttle got stuck wide open while riding. well brakes couldn't stop me so i took out a mail box. and used a tree to stop myself. i had to jump off and put my hand over the carb to kill it.(cause my Kill switch was not working.)

2nd is when after replacing the crazy motor that tried to kill Me^^^^ i put on a HF6.5 and while i was riding it full throttle the oil sensor tripped and killed the engine.(i had no throttle setup at the time so i would just set the throttle and ride.) well my uncle comes over and talks to me and i forget i had it at full throttle. so when i cranked it back up it took off. and was stopped by my dads barn. My uncle was rolling on the ground laughing.

Not to mention the hundreds of times ive flipped the thing!

Cringe... Sounds nasty!
I rode my kart with two people. I did a wheelie the full way down the garden with someone on the back keeping the front up. That was fun. Only incident was falling off and grazing my hand. No biggie.

5 more for my list-
Riding my minibike, and the throttle gets stuck on down a hill, so the only thing to do was bail!!! Nice cut up leg.

Riding my minibike, thought lets try it for a wheelie. Only ridden a few times. Pulled up the front end and throttled it, landed on my arse. Lol.

Riding down another hill on my minibike, belt tensioner (when it had this sh!t setup) was slightly engaged when the lever was pulled, so I couldn't stop it. Went into a hedge, handlebars broke. Fun times.

Riding my mini again, front handlebars snap off at the frame. Got a video if anyone wants to see. Lucky I was only going a few MPH
Fixed the handlebars good and strong.
That bike is lethal! Time for a kill switch, good twist throttle and decent brakes!

Finally, was on my kart in a lumpy hilly field. Floored it trying to do a donut to show off to my mate. Well, the wheel hit a rut and the whole thing rolled. I was thrown out, steering column bent, column mount snapped. I have now built a roll cage.

Somehow I have never broken a bone touch wood!

Picked prickles out and squeezed out puss for weeks.......

This is how the kart landed after a 50mph accidental jump (some buddies of mine took it up a pretty large hill before it had brakes).
Also some damage shots. While, I was not in the kart myself, this was scariest thing that's happened yet.

I Replaced the gear driven steering on my murray kart with a pitman setup last week. When i did this i had to cut the steering hub off and re-weld onto the new steering shaft.

My brother and me went for a ride down a rutted out trail, and about 10 feet into the ride i hit the first bump and there goes my steering wheel! Flies right out of my hands and my brother almost ran it over. The kart went straight into the woods, but luckily i fixed the brakes the same day so I was able to prevent injury.

Note to self: weld 1/4 inch steel on the max setting!!
