sabretooth buggy build

ok, today i got the sabretooth buggy plans, i have 4 tires and wheels, 4 shocks, steering wheel, 5 point racing harness, tie rods, big plate of 3/16 steel, and the guy i got the tires and shocks from is building a bigger buggy the st4, and he has all the tools needed to build one, he is going to let me borrow his tubing bender, one of the ones you see at harbor freight or princess auto, and once i have all the plated i need cut traced out, i will take the plate down to his shop and he will plasma cut all the brackets out for me, so that will take lots of stress and time out of the build, also if anyone knows if i were to send anyone on this forum the plans is that illegal? can i get in any trouble for doing soo, just want to know ahead of time because i know once i start building it many people will ask for the plans??????????????????????????

Ya its probobly not a good idea to send the plans... if you were selling plans would you want people to share them and lose you money.. sounds like a good build ill be watching it

i dont think it would be illegal. now if you start selling it that would be illegal.

oh ya, for the engine it will have a 1983 Suzuki gr650 engine, the guy want 200, so buying the bike will cover my engine clutch system and brakes, everyone stay tuned once i start building it i will take many pics and document the whole build, if i love it when its done i may consider building a second one,so if i go out riding i can have someone to ride with, also i will talk to a machinist friend and talk about making a forward reverse gear box, ive got a lawnmower transmission to steal gears out of, i am going to print off the plans tomorrow and buy plastic clovers for all the pages and put the plans in a binder,

Selling the plans to people is definitely illegal. Just giving people the plans may not be, but it is really disrespectful. If someone can't afford the plans, they have no hope of affording the buggy! I know from experience that a lot of work goes into designing a buggy from scratch, if you make plans to help someone make that buggy you are certainly entitled to some money in exchange.

Lawn mower transmission gears? On a 650 motorcycle engine after all the gear reductions? You wouldn't catch me doing that!

I sincerely wish you the best of luck on your buggy, but if you want my advise... Take things slow, a bit of extra planning and patience now can save you so much later on. Does this motorcycle even run? The cost to properly rebuild that engine may make it worth while to just buy a nice motorcycle in the first place.

Also, what you are describing is a pipe bender, not a tube bender. Yes there is a difference.

i dont see a problome with giving away the plans but with the specs it gives you on the web site i could almost build one

Selling or giving the plans away is definately not right. Selling is illegal, and giving them away might also be. I woud not condone it. Plans are a relatively inexpensive expense when you are building a buggy. What is $50 when you are going to be spending $1000 - $2000 on your build. Come on guys!

People have done research, spent time and money on making these plans. Giving them away willy nilly is not ethical

I agree with Landuse 100% regarding sharing the plans. Now, from my own perspective:

There was a member some time back that had legitimately purchased a set of plans, and was having a hard time with them. He PM'd my brains out for help, but since I could not "see" what he was talking about, I could not really give him black-and-white answers. Eventually, I had him send me a copy of the plans which made a world of difference in helping him. In the couple of years since, I have pulled up the plans once, to reference them, and that is all. Therein is the difference. I did not and will not build from those plans, nor will I pass them on to anyone. I am therefore not violating any legal or moral standards.

Whether you give them free or sell them, makes no difference. Anyone wishing to build from a set of copyrighted drawings needs to pay the appropriate party for them, ensuring the designer(s) of said drawings gets what is legally and morally due.

I never said it was right. I was really.tired still am. Thank you for clarifying what i had failed to add. If i was thinking straighter i would have posted it.

If you have money to build the buggy in the first place what is alittle extra 50 gonna hurt. Like said before if yiu have money to build it you have money to buy the plans.

Yes guys, pay for the plans. And while paying realize how much effort was put into making them. Also know your supporting the cause. If everyone stole plans to build things eventually nobody will make plans. They're well worth the price. Look at plans like a road map. Do you drive across the country without planning your trip first? Of coarse not! You plan your trip the most efficient way possible. It's basically the same thing. The plans will save you more than their cost in the long run.
