It needs the stock airbox and muffler to run properly. I had put a 440 snowmobile engine in a golf kart. It too didn’t run worth a damn until I did those 2 things.
I ran my other rockwell 440 with no air box and a motorcycle exhaust and it had plenty of power. enough for me to get the tires spinning and crash it into the fence :ROFLMAO:

It’s pouring outside so I don’t think I’m gonna get to do any testing today.

Have you replaced the pump diaphragm in the carb? Be careful, buddy
It wasn’t needed the diaphragm and gaskets seemed to be new. It was weird it definitely sat but I don’t think it sat for 30 years like the PO said.

With the wiseco’s and the gaskets and just the way everything about the engine was I believe it was professionally done up and just left to sit.

The gaskets were still like out of a brand new kit condition.

Just rolled it

Did a wheelie hit the ditch and tossed me rolled over and ended in the field.

I’m scared of it. Whole front end needs replaced.

Probably does 70+ I let out of it as I had already Feared pushing the rpm any farther.

Edit: I’m fine. Just thankful no cars were around as this whole mess started on the streets and ended in the field. Also glad it shut off when it rolled.

I at this moment don’t have any care to fix it. Way to dangerous speed wise.

I will come back and say it was the second test ride actually the first one went very smooth down the street ahhhh it’s powerful and fast. Very very smooth I was actually very very satisfied with it.

Both front hubs and rims are destroyed beyond bending back into shape. I’ve already bent the square tube for the steering back into shape.

It bogged so I floored it hoping to clear it out. straight into a wheelie. No steering bent the tank mount almost right off the kart.

I’m looking for a slide carb swap I just don’t trust the Walbro on there now. If only you all could have witnessed the wheelie I rode for at least 100 feet straight up looking at the stars. It was truly magical until I hit that ditch.

When it rolled I thought it was going to be truly destroyed. I am gobsmacked it didn’t end up a scrap pile. Thankfully it kicked the chain I hobbled over and shut it off then ran home and towed it back with the ATV. It landed back on its wheels. What I witnessed and had happen to me today doesn’t even feel real…

The front end is straightened back out and I’m re-adjusting the tie-rods.

I went to start it and it had zero spark So I yanked the fan pulley and used the windows in the flywheel to file the points and it started right up and was idling away normally with zero bog.

I’m now wondering if it was loosing spark as it seemed to me like a fuel bog? But the moment I floored it to try to clear it out that’s when it went into the wheelie and i ended up in the rollover.

So maybe it was a spark issue? The hubs and rims are beyond repair although I did try.

It’s gonna be awhile before I get those as I just had a tooth pulled and I have other bigger things that need addressed.

One of those times where I knew I could build it but didn’t listen to being told I shouldn’t :ROFLMAO: :auto:

Those tie rod ends are a definite weak point. Use the heim joint style.

A couple rims and an ego seem to be the only real damage.
Not bad id say.

Might want to think about that steering wheel mounted kill switch....
I am looking into that as I had no time to react to my slap down switches I was trying to steer with the front end straight up in the air :ROFLMAO:

My ego is absolutely the most damaged out of the whole ordeal.

Again with how violent it rolled I’m in disbelief it didn’t destroy everything.

I think the only way to tame that beast of an engine is by mounting it in a bigger, heavier frame.
Maybe add a circular roll cage so it always lands on it's tires.
I knew a kid in the seventies who mounted a sled engine on a Ruppster frame. I do not think it was a 440, and it was too powerful for that buggy on any surface that had traction. It was a blast on frozen lakes.
