Robert was a 1958 graduate of Gibson High School and attended King’s Business College in Charlotte, North Carolina. In his early years, he was employed by JP Stevens and later became owner/operator of R&W Karts and Parts and RobRon, Inc. He enjoyed anything to do with racing, including driving and building motors and chassis. He also enjoyed restoring vintage cars and karts and truly loved “cruising” in his 1950 Ford Convertible.

Or a '76 Briggs. Again nice color matching if light sanded and patina coated. A much easier build but that 6HP Tecumseh looked like a monster ... it has the 1" shaft so very beefy.

EDIT: Prior to having in my possession it was thought to be an '81. Looking at the actual serial number it is a 1976.

Thank you for posting. I have enjoyed the experience I've had learning about Robert and Rupp and karting in general. Amazing how much joy a single 'repurposing' purchase from FBM can provide. I have especially liked learning about how robron came to be and admire his initiative to buy the jigs, blueprints and (I assume) NOS inventory ... I again see the cross over between classic cars and vintage go kart collecting.

You’re welcome. Have enjoyed learning along with you but have been just gleaning bits and pieces here and there. JimD is the source though as he worked with Robert Stanton and all the domestic fun kart (some racing kart) manufacturers as an OEM supplier. I mean he has confirmed and can confirm what is basically rumor or heresay.

The Briggs is a good fit due to the configuration of the fuel tank and small footprint it provides over the Tecumseh. The genius of it is that the fuel tank is on the same side as the carburetor and exhaust and not on the other side taking up all that crucial real estate behind the seat.

Nah no need for a torque converter, especially one for 1 inch shaft engines, and especially on such a small, basic, non suspension kart which I thought you were restoring to fact’ry specs. You don’t appear to have much room there….

I might flip the Funderbird body outright. What’s the condition like?

Hello! New to the forum and karts in general. Recently purchased this frame as a project with my grandson ... I understand most of what you're looking at but absolutely can't understand how the rear axe attaches, any input or pictures would be much appreciated.

Nice find. I have one also I'm working on. I did a search on those and it turns out they're pretty valuable and sought after, not many were made. I was going to modify it and put on a live axle and a bigger motor but I think I'm going to leave it just as is. I'm thinking about selling it and picking up one I can build.

Can we get some more photos? Front back left right, out in the sunlight on some freshly cut grass (I dream big). The one wheel peels are FUN, they drive squirrelly and the first race karts were one-wheel-drive (and direct drive, no clutch). That floor pan decal needs a few photos to aid in reproduction.

Might be a little while before Get some more photos. It's up on a table now. I do a little bit at a time as I can. Might go up for sale also.

Great news! I found a second Rocket this weekend (neither one has a great sticker like yours)!

The frame is great and it has a working predator with dead axle and CC setup. I actually rode it when I got home needs work dialing the steering and front wheels (not correct). When going straight it was quick!

My first one was missing the axle (square tube with supports and welded stubs) ... like you I thought converting now i am going to restore. The new one will give me everything I need to replicate the assembly on the other.

Are those 6" Tri-Stars?
