So finally got it running after two attempts at cleaning the carb.

Now that it's running - it will idle with the choke off, but won't accelerate. With choke all the way on - it idles too fast and the clutch/TC engages and it wants to go.

Seems like I read that may be a sign of an air leak - is that right? I've got new gaskets on order - should that clear up the issue? How does one find the source of the leak if that is in fact the issue?

Thanks!

Spray around any potential air leak areas with carb or brake cleaner.....if the engine speeds up...you found your leak....

It doesn't sound like that's your problem....tho...

Looking at the linkage that connects to the carb....keep in mind...it PULLS to make it go faster...(not pushes)....

Sooooo....look close....and somewhere .....(most likely a screw on top of the carb)....is something that is keeping the carb from closing....(probably to compensate for the dirty carb)....

So, it sounds like I need to take the air cleaner housing off and just look to see if there is anything physically preventing the carb from closing?

Pretty new to this whole thing so I'm not exactly sure I understand what I'm looking for. I'll take pics as I go, though may be later in the week before I get at it again.

Thanks.

Okay, clearly I can't handle the responsibility.! After doing some additional reading I realized that when I thought the choke was on, it was off, and when I thought it was off, it was on.

So, perhaps I have fewer issues than I thought (other than not knowing what the **** I'm doing.). Is there a way to adjust the idle speed or is there still the potential issue Poboy Mentioned and the carb isn't closing.

Thanks

Yes....take the air cleaner off....there should be a screw that prevents the butterfly inside so you can see if it's closing....

Even if you can't...you should see a plate with a tab that screw hits on top of the carb....backing that screw off should lower the idle.....

If....however, the plate is not hitting the screw....you may need to adjust where the cable is clamped....

Ok - so I took off the air filter and there does not appear to be anything stopping the butterfly from closing.

I think my problem is still where and or how to connect the governor spring to the speed lever. I wedged it between the two pieces at the bottom of the lever, but it was too tight and would caused the TC to engage. If I hold the spring with very little tension it will idle and not engage the TC. However, I'm pretty sure that's not a long term solution. ;-)

Hopefully this picture helps explain my problem.
