Howdy. This all started a couple years ago after I began watching YouTubers like TarylFixesAll, RedBeardsGarage, CarsAndCameras, and a few others. After seeing how easy it seemed to maintain and use, I bought my first minibike a year ago (Coleman CT200U) which I modified with a GoPowerSports airflow intake/jet/header and modified the seat with springs. It bounces like a Buick LeSabre.
Now that I have the confidence to keep small engines running (I have several to keep my yard somewhat clean) I want to fulfill my fantasy of an all-around semi-off road/pavement go-kart with balanced speed and torque; enough speed and acceleration to be fun and enough low end torque to get up the hills in my back yard.
I purchased a gokart on craigslist which seems to be completely intact and working except for the brakes which don't engage. I have no idea if this kart has been modified or how much is original.
It has a 5.5 HP Tecumseh PowerSport engine, the steering wheel says Streaker. After checking for oil, I took it out for a spin: weak acceleration but a decent high speed. The tires had way too much air in them and caused the tires to bump over every pebble on the asphalt. I tried to go up a decent sloped hill in my back yard but the clutch slipped and spun without moving the cart.
Currently, I have a new clutch to replace the "original to me" one. I also ordered a new air filter and a new manual brake caliper from GPS.
I'm so excited to get this thing going. I have a name for it, but it's probably inappropriate but for those clever enough (and who watch Trailer Park Boys and GoTs) it's alias will be "The Green Jon Snow."
