Just a quick question,
how would you go about getting a kart or buggy made road legal?, I guess the obvious things are seatbelts, indicators, brake lights etc.

But what else? Is it even possible? Is it cheap?

I'm from the UK so that's what I want to know about.

Thanks :)

Have fun ;)

You will probably need to apply for a SVA. Some guy I know is building a 'race car' in the style of a lotus, with a honda bluebird bike engine. He said it is £500 or so to apply IIRC.

Ahh, yeh I didn't think it would be cheap,
I just thought that maybe there was some sort of regulation that allows using the road within a certain distance etc. I'd only need to take it down the road, I wouldn't be going shopping in it :p

I don't think so, but your best off contacting the authorities.
It would probably be under a kit car or something.
You may get a way with calling it a quad, but it's unlikely.

Been doing a bit of reading up on the SVA,
I don't think you can call it a kit car or a quad unless the chassis has been approved, so for a complete new vehicle apparently its pretty hard to get.
I've got a mate of mine on the case at the moment so hopefully he will be able to help me out but it sounds like its going to be more hassle than its worth unfortunately.
