RLV muffler question

Does the perforated piece of metal on the body of the RLV muffler serve a purpose other than a place to attach a lanyard? Maybe harmonics? I ask because I am going to coat the muffler and want to get full coverage, I don’t want rust bleeding out from under that piece and would like to cut it off.

that's a B91, no?

there's also a B91 MMRA without the nasty welded shield
which as oppesed to the B91 is NOT WKA legal

Soo there might be some additional vents covered by that shield,
but it might as well be a help for "visual distinction"
IDK..

on a fun kart (no racing ) I'd go for the MMRA muffler instead
(no shield, no welds to clean, no worries about being WKA approved or not)

If it is a racing setup that has to obey certain specs, I wouldn't touch the shield

Thanks for the reply, itsid! I didn’t know there was another version of this that did not have the perforated metal on it, seeing that there is one out there and I can see through the perforations that there is not any kind of venting in it I’m going to roll the dice and cut it off. Unfortunately, I already have it in my possession. My concern was that it was there for harmonics/frequency tuning.

The perforated band welded to the outside? No, that's just a bracket.

The whole muffler doesn't meet federal spark arrester requirements.
