It's a Lincoln; if it still welds at all then it's worth fixing. Like ryf said, most welding repair shops will diagnose it for you for free with a quote to fix it. Don't just throw it out; after using it for so long, you won't be satisfied with a HF unit.:cheers2:

I think we have a failure to communicate here...

When I say, "it does not use a bridge rectifier", I mean "it uses four individual diodes (in whatever electrical configuration they happen to use) INSTEAD of a neat, compact, 1-piece package rectifier assembly."

There are two each of two different number diodes. So- instead of a single package like the pics a few posts back, it's for entirely seperate components that can be replaced individually.

I DO appreciate everyone's help here- no question. And I may just turn it into a shop after all- while we always want something better, this machine has served me well both commercially and privately for more than 10 years.

just to be clear, I wasn't telling you to pay them to fix it, I just figured it would save you spending money on diagnosis. I would however buy consumables from them to make sure they're doors are still open when you need them next time. :) I dont like paying people to do work I can do but sometimes a shop has the money for diagnostic tools I can't afford, if I can support their business and still get something worthwhile from it (consumables) I will. good luck and hopefully its a cheap fix.

Gotcha. Well, we'll see when I get there, I guess. It'll be a few weeks at least. Fortunately, I've got that loaner machine working in the meantime. There's a couple things I need to get done before the winter weather starts to happen.

Hot dang- I'm so happy, I could dance naked in the street! Fortunately for the general population, I won't.

I had a coworker email me after work yesterday, telling me of a welder on sale at TSC (Tractor Supply). It is a "Century Wire Feed 100". Little research revealed they are owned and built by Lincoln Electric. Sale price? $200!!! Half off- NICE!

The catch? The sale started at 7:00 this morning, the ad said "limited quantities", and my closest TSC is 30 minutes away from here, in the wrong direction of travel for me going to work.

I called the store last night, they informed me they had only 15 units on hand. Crap. So I flew outta bed this morning, and made a beeline for Orangeville. Late for work? Too bad, I ain't missing out on this one!

I got to the store 5 minutes before opening, and there were 25-30 people lined up at the door. CRAP! I did the math, didn't look good...

The doors opened at 7:00 sharp and I grabbed an employee- "Where's the welders???" I ran off to the stack, and I think I got the first one. Beeline for the checkout. I'm sure witnesses wondered what the red blur was.

So here it is. Part for part, spec for spec, identical to my old Weld-Pak 100. The machine is gas convertible, but does not come with the conversion parts. However, I have those parts, and they are a direct, bolt-on fit. NICE!

There's just no way I could have done better than this. A friend of mine just put his lunchbox in for repair, with similar symptoms to my own. Between the repair and a new gun and cable assembly, it cost him $300. For $100 less, I got a brand, spanking new machine with a 3-year warranty! I am a very, very happy camper!

- Let the games begin! (again)

It's going to weld every bit as well as every other Lincoln Lunchbox I have ever used, which is about 10. I absolutely and without question, guarantee it's performance.

Black Friday? Rather American....

Yowzah- Christmas came early for this guy!!!

To purchase the welder, I had to borrow the money 'till payday as I was a bit tight last week. As some of you know, I haven't touched my kart since May because I have been renovating my grandmother's house, so it can be sold. She's 89 years old, and after a brutal heart attack in May, she can't live alone anymore. I finally finished it Sunday. Done. YAY!!! Soon, I will be able to devote some free time (Free time?) to revamping my ride! Of course, I'm not going to charge my grandmother for the work, but-

My mother phoned me last night and informed me that the welder was a gift, forget about the loan. COOL. But it gets better. I was also informed that good ol' Grandma was buying me a treat. Given the fact that she really has no money to speak of, it was a pleasant surprise. I had $500 to spend on something that I wanted, not needed. We spend our lives chasing things we need, but this time it was to be something I have wanted for a long time but could not justify the cost because it was not necessary.

So, I did some 'net surfing, and tonight after work I found myself at TSC again. Scored this big, meaty generator!

The sweet part is that it normally sells for $800 around here and was on sale for $500:D All in all between the welder and the genny, I got $1200 (plus taxes of course) worth of shiny new toys- and my money or not, they only cost $700! So it's like this- what could I have gotten for $700? Nothing this good!!! Maybe a low-buck offbrand chinese welder from Princess Auto, and a generator that I couldn't use for welding if my life depended on it. Dang it, I am HAPPY!!!:sifone::auto::D

Score!!! That is a really nice generator. I bought just a small one a few months ago (just a 950W generator), and I have used it several times already. Even though we didn't need it, I wanted it too. I am not too sure what we would do without it now

Cool, my step dad got my Lincoln pro core 100 flux-mig running again. The line wouldn't feed, and it was a loose connector inside. Great welder, it also runs DC +and -.

You mean the machine we were discussing, that you thought the drive motor was shot? Glad to hear it was something simple. See? Told ya! LOL. Right on!

So- my mother called me again today, and I guess she was jealous. She insisted I try to get her the same generator. I called TSC and had them hold another one for me. So, for the third time in a week, I was off to TSC! Dragged it home, put it together, did a test run. One pull, smooth as glass. Nice!

I've spent almost $1400 at TSC in a week. I think I oughta get a stock option!!!
