I bought a gx340 to rebuild and when I broke it down I noticed the charging coil still mounted behind the flywheel and the flywheel had the groove for the electric start ring gear. I have a gx390 with electric start and an extra gx390 starter, Iwant to make one of the gx340s I'm rebuilding electric start also. Here's the problem when I search ebay or the web everybody is selling the flywheel and ring gear as one and its alot considering I already have honda flywheels. Does anyone know where to get just the ring gears? I'm just assuming you can just buy them individually cause it looked like the engine I bought obviously had it removed before selling it. Thanks for any help.

First, make sure that your 340 has a charging coil, and not just a lighting coil! You may have to check a service manual to identify the difference.

Also in the service manual- whether they consider the ring gear a "replaceable" part. Having been into my Briggs Oppy manual recently, I know they are replaceable and therefore must be sold (somewhere) as a separate part.

Unfortunately, I don't believe I have a big-block Honda GX manual (was hard to lay hands on when I had my 340) so I cannot check for you.
