hey guys i have some tire and rim questions. first of all what are the advantages and dis advantages of using rims that require a hub vs using a rim that will accept your axle directly into the rim. im looking to build a cart similar to the one picured below. I want similar tire sizes, maybe not quite as big in the front.

also if i buy a rim that is 6x5 1/4 how do i know what tires will fit that rim? and 6'' tire?

are there rim sizes for go karts that are better than others? for example is it better to go with a larger rim because there may be more tires available thatfit that rim?

are there tires that are commonly used that anyone would reccomend for front or back? rims that you would reccomend?

thanks everyone for the help!!!

Rear 8" rims, 22x11-8

Front 6" rims 15x6-6 (you may want larger front rims/tires based on that pic, but that kart in the pic won't be able to turn very well without the tire hitting the frame. Huge mess.

Fronts should accept bearings w/no hub OR be a split r(or solid)im w/hub/inner tube.

Rear can be a type 4" bolt pattern that accepts a hub, or has a 1" bore w/keyway.

Either way works. Hubs are more expensive.

is that 22-11-8 the rim or tire size? are there many options for tire sizes on a 8'' rim?

22" is the tire height, 11" is the tire width, and 8" is the rim size. For the 8" rim they have tires up to 22" from what I have found.

Axle fit rims have less parts to break but, you have to remove the entire wheel whenever you want to work with the wheels. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it prevents the hub from locking itself to the axle...

A hub & rim setup has bolts between them (obviously) which can tend to break if the worng hardware is used or the hardware is used incorrectly...

sorry for all the questions but with that 22-11-8 tire does it matter the rim width?

Well, yes, you won't get those tyres on a 2" wide rim will you but, "standard" rims are usually close to square as far as measurements go; what I mean by that is, an 8" diameter rim is usually close to 8" wide (unless otherwise specified)
