Well i found some good junk today. So i may not need all this crazy stuff. I got a good dc motor from a treadmill! Score! Also a lawnmower with drive wheels. Hasa right angle diff on it. Probably not strong for go kart. But now i have both options.

Ah yes!

did some junk driving last week. Found some good stuff!

Tredmill motor 90VDC 2KW 21AMP
Lawn mower
kids bike!

Motor runs great when i put 12VDC. so maybe electric go kart? looks to be hard at 90vdc.

Thinking a couple 12V car batteries a 3K 110VAC converter and then back to 90VDC controller :) simple. Easier then a 24VDC to 90VDC converter controller. The other things are off the shelf buys.

Or i use the motor for some shop tool that i don't have yet. Homemade lathe?

Kids bike: need steering for this crazy kart build. maybe keep chain etc for parts? or toss.

Lawnmower: always good to have another engine!!! now i have 4. almost to poboys level of 18+ lawnmowers

oh and its front wheel drive lawnmower. so i pulled that out.

gets 7:1 ratio. Could use for my crazy kart idea? probably snap as soon as i try.

Doesn't say ratio? maybe just 1:1. up to 40HP! nice.

Although if i use that electric i wont need angle box.

Thinking i hack something together real quick with the junk parts and see what i can do. the steering and power to the wheel is the crazy part. I had to draw it out to try and make sense. maybe wire steering would be easier....im not sure.

Spend rest of year on my go kart first. then maybe next year i have money to put on this crazy idea.

That gear box is the one Cars and cameras used for the Rat rod Wagon. 1:1 they used it successfully with a 6.5 predator.

hmm. yah the tire needs to be directly under one axes and driven by the other. was thinking two small HF tires....that i still have not doing anything with.

so maybe yah that would work but then chain drive it down to small axle with one tire under it.... not sure how to explain it. even as i read i don't think i'm coming across right. need a picture!

okay love photoshop!

Well im still thinking about this crazy kart design.

spent a couple hours drafting up the steering axle design in CAD.

Here is exploded and assembled so far. Need to figure out actual gearbox size and tire im going to use. It's going to be a tight fit so i think i need to draw it all out before i start....
Finding all the right pipes and bearings are going to be the hard part i think.

maybe by the time 2017 build off starts ill have designs complete? maybe.

The red is the Frame of the kart. so it will continue to the body of the chassis. The green top is steering. it will gear out through #35 chain over and back to the steering wheel.

I think i need access to a lathe! Maybe i can get a mechanical engineer to help me, they have a small lathe/mill in the R&D area. Will need to get pipe close enough and lathe it down for the bearings i find.

Anyways here is the start of design.

p.s. for reference the tire is designed at 15" right now. But i may use smaller to keep me closer to the ground.

I should also note that the grey arms i should of colored blue. because the blue part is part of the arms. Just drew separate in case i need a bigger pipe easy to modify later.

You are a godsend! I have been killing myself trying to come up with a right angle diff for my shaft driven motorcycle project.

I'll be installing a Predator 420cc or 670cc on it but the right angle of the shaft was causing no end of complications. I was just about to give in and mount the engine sideways. :surrender:

I just need to figure out how to marry up the ujoint on the shaft and then a sprocket mounted on the other diff shaft.

Thanks!

:cheers2:

Cool
Glad that helped. best part about that link... You never have to search for it again. Seems I have clicked on it once or twice... and now every site I go to it pops up in the ads!

Well picked up scrap metal today. ~$10 13lbs of pipes. Ordered 5/8 axle $15 and some 5/8 collars $8. Axle and first pipe are good with bearings i have. Not sure about large pipe. To tight for bearings.... Maybe metal on metal. Have about 1/4" play though. Needs to support steering and keep axle straight. Maybe back to scrap yard for larger pipe. Like 2 1/2"?

This is prototype. When 2017 build off starts ill pull apart and redo. Start new thread etc.....

ugh... cant help myself. start thinking about an idea :idea2: and i have to buy things! So i picked up two Tapered Roller Bearings. 1-1/4" Inch Bore. Size: 1-1/4" ID x 2.4409" OD x 0.715" Width.

another $19.90 down the drain :)

Should fit my 1 1/4 pipe. but not the 2" pipe.....so i need 2.5" pipe ID or i modify the 2" with some bearing ring holder thingy...... :roflol: am i going crazy? yes, yes i am.
