Yes. I did the same thing when I had my kart (17 years ago - I was 12). I went through a clutch every 2 months or so. The cheesy busings in those clutches are not designed for the side-loading caused by putting the brake band around the clutch.

At least you have a chain tensioner which I didn't. When the bushing started to wear out it actually allowed enough slop to throw the chain which meant NO BRAKES! I almost went into a busy street when I threw the chain at ~25 MPH.

I never did get brakes figured out on that thing... I had a drum brake that I thought was supposed to go inside one of the wheels (using the rim as the drum) but could never quite figure out mounting. After 2 summers and about 6 clutches I sold that death-trap.

Great kart. I saw the video and it looks like alot of fun. I noticed the unstabbleness in the turn having to shift ur weight. Does your steering help with bumpsteer? It looks like a great design. Good job!

Is that a 2.5hp? How is the rear wheel setup, with a hub on the rim or what type of wheel? Also what sproket size are u running?

No bumpsteer because no suspension.

The motor is a 6.5hp honda clone.

I'm running 12T sprocket on the clutch and 60T sprocket on the rear wheel.

I bought the wheels and hubs from Nothern Tool. The rear wheel has a flange for mounting a sprocket.

Pretty cool build man, I will say though I'm with some of the earlier posts regarding the danger factor on the brake set-up. Older American mini-bikes used this assembly before the lawsuits made them move to different set-ups. When the chain breaks, you have no brakes... Very very very bad. Good thing linksep is alive... its a serious problem.

Well at least when the chain brakes you don't have any forward acceleration either! If your brake band on your kart breaks and your clutch stick, you are doomed if you don't have a shutoff switch.
