Thought I might make a log of my current kart project. This is being built to the exact specs as published Jan 1960 in mechanix illustrated.
The side rails took ages to make, as I had to file the fillet real long for the joint, the bends were fun to do and only took a couple of hours.
wheels are 4" front and 5" rear, dead axle(one wheel drive) pressed steel, wearing 450/310 slicks.
Seat will be apolstered with beading around the edges!
Motor is a current model suzuki 2 stroke about 4hp 160cc, almost new. I will be adding a crome megaphone and spun aluminum velocity stack! I may run the motor with or without the pressed steel flywheel cover, if I use it, it will be painted yellow with a reproduction McCulloch sticker! and without the pullstarter unit, should fool the untrained eye!!!
Progress is slow, but in a fiew days I should finish the basic frame, sissy rails (little driver support bars on the sides of the seat) and the front and rear axle tubes. I have yet to make the pedals, brakes, brake linkages, throttle linkages, and the steering
P.S. I am investigating either twin carbs or one of the diaphram carbs like Russ has on his lawn boys, anybody know what is best, or where I can get some like Russ's?
