Hi, I have just finished restoring/modding my vintage race kart, 6.5hp pred with 90 jet, homemade intake filter and homemade breather with a homemade exhaust. I'm still finishing a few things like the seat. How much do you think I should sell it for and where could I find a set of those back tires? Thanks for your time.

I see your from Florida..

Post it for $10,000.00 like everyone else who lives here! Maybe you could get a kidney or liver or something...

Because even If I told you to sell it for a reasonable price. [300 dollars] I'm sure you're not gonna agree with that...

New paint? Pshu, what ever.

Tires are old, Everything but the frame is rusty. - looks major tacky. And I don't know if there is still rust under that new coat of paint.

The custom "exhaust" is nothing but a pipe and a little cheapo slip-on.

the rusty bolts in the tires tells me that the bearings are most likely pretty crappy.

excuse me, I'm having a bad day. but everything I say is the truth.

Man, that's harsh...

Thrasher, welcome to the forum. We're not all like that; in fact, J isn't usually like that, totally out of character, so please don't let that tyrade influence you, we're a pretty laid back bunch...

:backtotopic:

J is correct about a few things though:
1. Pricing is regional. You need to check local pricing & guage from that.
2. Fresh paint with old looking parts (pedals, control rods, steering shaft, axle, etc) takes the gleam away from the paint; no one will notice the paint, only the other parts. Try cleaning them (wire wheel, sand blasting, sanding) & give them a squirt of paint also, a few hours work will make an amazing difference

Alright thank you guys. I was mainly trying to find out where I could find a set of rubber. Since it's summer, I will probably paint the rest of the stuff. I wire wheeled the whole frame and removed all of the rust before i primed then did 2 coats of paint.

Jeeze that was unneeded there J, and yeah fabroman was right first thing people look for is rust and flaws to get the purchase price down so don't give them any flaws in the kart. And check craigslist list for prices and price yours around equal karts to yours.

Yeah, sorry about being a dick, I hadn't slept after 9 hours of pool cleaning. and didn't even get hired, or payed for those 9 hours. And I REALLY NEED A JOB. on top of that I was hungry.

So yeah, I was pretty cranky..

But I still stand on that rusty-ness. If you wire-wheel it off. it should look better. there is an indoor gokart ring, called orlando GP. That would be a good place to start to look for tires. you could call them and ask. Plus it wouldn't be to expensive on shipping if they had something.

Have a look at his post above. He has removed the rust and painted it already

:wai: If that is a Bug Kart from the 70's. There are a few Vintage kart racers from Fla and Ga. I would pull the clone and advertize the rest for sale. I have seen some of those vintage rollers go for some big $.

Do a Google search for "vintage kart forums". There's the VKA site. The REAR site, Vintagekarts.com, etc. Do some reading on each before you ask "What's it worth?" Different sites sometimes deal with specifc year time frames and not all go to the '70's. Most vintage guys are serious about what they do and won't respond to vague questions about "how much money can I make?". Check Evilbait & Craigslist as well..

:wai: We used to go to a go-kart swap meet over in Ohio. I seen a Bug Wasp/Stinger can not remember which sell for 800$ and it was just the bare frame. Take JandJ's advice and check out the vintage forums. He his right the vintage Guys are serious about there go karts. Go to vintagekartsforum, where they have a what is it section, put in your frame picture and ask someone to id it. That way you will know if it is a Bug.

Hey guys, i took your advice and wire wheeled the parts then primed and then 3 coats of matte black. I also bought some header wrap and wrapped my pipe. I did this not for performance but because i have a 3.5" burn on my fore arm from touching the pipe but now i can put my hand on the header wrap and it only gets warm.:wai:
