Ok....you gotta promise not to tell my wife....but I've been cheating all these years.....

Truth be told....I've rebuilt a bunch of small engines and never used a torque wrench....it's not for everyone....but I kinda have one built in....

I know how to tighten bolts by feeling the contact, resistance, and stretch of the bolts.....it's really kinda common sense in a way...a 1/4" bolt takes some finesse....while a half inch bolt takes some muscle with a ratchet....and little oompf with a breaker bar....but not too much....

You could practice on larger bolts to get a feel for the approximate torque values.....

I totally know what you're talking about..

My torque wrench (el cheapo hardwarestoreshirt) min reading 30Nm .. torque wrench that goes low enough to tighten 24Nm bolts... nowhere offline...
So I don't have a good torque wrench either, but you know what
amazon... (as much as I hate to say it :()

Well see that's what I thought. But I'm not too sure if I want to wing it like that.
I'll check with some guys at work to see if they might be any help. If not I guess I'll have to wait till they come back in stock.

The otherday I got another torque wrench. Today a short bit ago, getting it ready to run, torqued the head properly.
I have watched a few vids on this valve lash resetting, seemed easy enough...
I set the exhaust at .003"... Apon the setting of the intake, I tighten the jamb nut, not even really tightly all. The jamb nut is just spinning not tightening.
I remove the nut(managed to engage the threads) and sure enough the rocker pivot bolt stripped.
Really... WTF.

So I guess one step ahead, two steps back. Got to find a new pivot bolt that fit the champion motors.

Sorry to hear that :(

Without knowing the champion engine, I'm still pretty confident to assume you can go and buy Honda parts, should be still affordable, and you can be sure that wont happen again
(well not as easily at least) ;)

Ya it's a total piss off. Just when I got everything together...
I'm thinking I'll just call them and get some me ones, maybe another carb aswell while I'm at it. I keep seeing Briggs engines at the flea markets, I'm thinking of a Bronda build.
