Hello Everyone,

I just started to rebuild a go Kart for the first time and i am having some issues and questions on how to properly replace everything.

Currently the go kart i have the sprocket is actually welded to the **** axle.

I need to cut the axle in order to replace the Sprocket so it will line up with my new engine Predator 420cc.

The current axle length i would say is 38 inches. The tires are 18x8.50

I want to got to a 18x9.50

can i still do that with a 38inch axle? Or should i get a 40-42 inch axle to replace it?

Appreciate the help.

That's only one inch wider per tire. You should be fine with the stock axle. You can put those wider tires on the same wheels.

Actually looking at your pic you might be better off getting a couple inch longer axle since you have to get a new one anyway.

Wonder how a 44" would do if it would be any better?

But then again, wouldn't that mess with the steering geometry?

Axle Update

So unfortuneatly i was not able to get any of the tires off or anything else for that matter.

The rust on the go kart from the previous owner was so bad i had to cut the axle off along with the tires.

Luckily Go power sports sells an entire axle assembly with tires that i can get to replace it.

You should think about getting wheel hubs with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, that way you can at least get the wheels off in the future incase of extreme rust.

I have the exact same problem with my kart. I had to cut off the axle because everything was welded together...and bent.
Now I'm trying to get advice on what to get and where to get it from.
Where are you getting your new axle from?

Ordering new Axle kits

@Paintedsheep

I went ahead and looked at a few sites and the best site was www.gopowersports.com.

Here i the direct link to order their Live axle kit. It has everything you need in one whole kit.

http://www.gopowersports.com/live-axle-kit-complete/

I ordered this last week and got it in 3 days. Orders over $200 are free shipping which is awesome.

As you can see in my pics i ordered the axle kit with the drum brake all new lock rings and new barrings/flaggettes and new tires. It has everything you need to replce the entire rear end.

I also ordered shocks from them which you can see fit perfect.

I hope this helps :)

I did the same as you in cutting off a rusted axle. I ordered all new parts minus the axle. going to set the wheels and tires up and measure across to see what length I need. Going with the live axle also.

New Rear axle Update:

Update: :cheers2:

The rear axle assembly from Gopowersports.com fits like a glove.

I just ordered the remaining parts to finish the motor and front end.

This has been an expensive overhaul but definately allot of fun.

More pics to follow...
