My engine won't start - it started smoking and got harder and harder to start. Now it won't start at all and my go kart is only a few months old, less than 1000 miles and haven't driven it hard at all. I have a flat yard, no hills or rocks, check the oil each time. So, looking to replace my engine with, http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_554303_554303 , My engine area placement: W=9.5 x H=13 x L=23 =2,662. Honda area: L=12 x W=13.375 x H=12.5. This is the go kart I have http://www.kandiusa.com/product_veh.php?id=242 . This is the engine I have now: http://www.buggydepot.com/product/377/gy6-engine-150cc.html. I really don't want another Chinese engine. Please contact me if you need more information, have advice as to what I should do or if you have a better engine that I can use to replace it.

If you haven't already, take a glance at MDV77632's topic on burning up clutches. It should shed some light on potential pitfalls with replacing a GY6 with an industrial engine. If this is the route you choose to go down, I'd at least opt for the GX200 over the GX160. Don't let displacement fool you, a 150cc GY6 had more power than an out of the box 196cc GX200.

As far as your current motor, maybe it's too soon to throw in the towel. Smoking can mean a lot of things. Carb could be flooding the engine causing it to smoke/hard start. Rings could be worn causing it to smoke/hard start. Valve adjustment is worth staying on top of, even with a motor that's running.

Check to see if the needle is shutting off fuel to the bowl. Floats can be tweaked a little as well to change fuel level in bowl as long as needle is seating properly.

If I was you I would go with atleast a 420cc Predator. That engine you are looking at will be too small and underpowered for that kart. You will also need to add a jackshaft and 40 series clutches. For the price of what 1 Honda engine would cost around 420cc you could buy and blow up then rebuild 2 Predators. Something to think about.

1st off what color smoke is coming from the engine? Where is it coming from? Have you ever done an oil change to the gy6?
What manufacture is your buggy? It might be under warranty..

I to recomend keeping the 150cc. They are awesome when running properly.
