Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to find the correct replacement engine for my go kart. I need an engine with:
- The same mounting
- Same crankshaft height and distance
- A governor system like the one on the current engine (the petal connects to the governor and not the carburetor directly and pulls the spring back into place)

The engine is a 5HP Briggs and Stratton model 136212-0128-01. Is there a way to find an engine with all of the specs or do I have to find an identical engine?

Thanks

If I am not mistaking most if not all clone 5 or 6 hp engines use the same mounting pattern. I have never messed with a Briggs but the Robin/Subaru 5hp mounts were identical to the HF Predator 6.5hp engine.

I looked at the predator ones but they don't have the correct governor placement.

Most engines around 5hp up to 7 or so have the same mounting pattern. A Honda GX160 or 200 might have the right placement, if you mind spending the extra hundred or two hundred for them.

I am Gonna second all that has been said.
Almost all Small 4to7 Hp Engines will bolt right up.

Crankshaft height and distance... Well that can easily be adjusted away with Chain length.

It is gonna be a Crapshoot to figure and Exact match for your Throttle.
However the Predator Off the Shelf comes with 2 locations that allow you to VERY easily hook up nearly any throttle Cable. With the Governor intact.

You may just have to make things work. Nothing mentioned sounds difficult.
That is why we are here, You can do it, We can help

Is this for your Manco 715 Indy car.
The Predator will not be at all difficult to fit on there.

You have to search out and read his "other" thread to find out.

That sounds like a lot of work so I will remain in the dark on this one.

Here's an obvious question: what's up with the B&S engine?
Nothing, but he just wants more power to race his uncle and his Predator 212 go kart. He's asked about "juicing" using shots of either nitrous oxide, nitromethane, alcohol, or whatever...I lost track of who said what. But regardless, he wants more power and speed.

Outside of modding the engine, by taking out the governor, regearing, and other fun stuff, or dropping a different engine on it, or using a pit bike engine to build a shifter kart, there isn't much left. Removing the governor, will allow you to go into higher rpm, giving you a lot more speed. Getting a lower gear ratio from your 5.3:1 to like a 6:1 or so and/or jetting the carb, intake mod and exhaust header for better off the line take off, will do a lot.

Your probably using something around 163-190cc 5hp engine, he has you by a few cubic centimeters, meaning larger displacement will have the advantage off the line, generally speaking. There's no replacement for displacement. A torque converter, will help get you off the line too.

There's a lot that can be done for a bit of $$$.
