Removing valve springs 212 cc NON HEMI

Bought my son a stage one kit.
Valve springs, jets, emulsion tube, air filter, header etc.

Pulled the valve cover and it looks like lash caps need to be removed.

I was expecting to push the spring down and into the wide groove and slide the spring out.

How do I remove the lash caps and get these springs off?

Push the spring/retainer down with one hand, and use some needle nose pliers to take the cap off (I believe). Once the cap is off, you can do the wide groove thing.

That's what I did on another Honda OHV engine.

Heavy valve springs are not necessary; if the governor is intact, you will see a marginal difference; with the governor removed, bye bye conrod...
