So the best option would be to drain all the oil and remove the case then cut it off, or would spraying water on it work?

****...just cut it with a hacksaw or Dremel.
Stop all the BS...PLEASE.
I could have done a hundred by now.
This shaft end was cutoff using a Dremel and filed flat.
Keyway did not exist before I got to it.
