SSD is definitely preferred, more ram is better if you're browsing or streaming often, if you're not using the optical bay, you can get a tray that lets you put an HDD in for extra storage. Windows 7 or 10 is really just your preference right now. 7 should be supported for a while still. Business class dells are super robust computers, parts are available in case of problems. Sounds pretty decent for price

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3836992 I believe this is brand new. Decent price and should be able to do everything.

Granted small screen and does not come with much storage space, but it's well within your budget.

I have bought a few computer components that were refurb over the years, but now that parts are cheaper for quality, I don't see the point.

SSD without question. You'll thank me. It's night and day.

256gb is about average for most SSDs. It's not too little storage, but it's also reasonably priced.

That dell looks nice, but I know someone near me selling a slightly higher model for less. It also has dedicated graphics. More for the money.

I had just read about the assistive tech free upgrade when I saw that many had 7.

The eMMC is interesting. But I think I’d rather buy refurbished with newer tech than new with older tech. The 1.6 GHz and Celeron are kinda old. And 32GB can’t be enough for much more than Windows right?

Yeah the Celeron is pretty slow compared to the i5 in the Dell business class. And 32gb is tiny. My phone has 64gb.

It was the only one so I got it before it was gone.

I hope it has USB 3.0 ports. If I get a 1TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive. Some are around $60 with decent reviews.

Not too bad at 270, I think you'll like the speeds of the SSD.

Usb 3.0 is gonna be hit or miss. These laptops were built by specs to many different companies so some had 3.0 and some didn't. There were tons of different versions of them made.

The only question remaining: Does it fly?

Flying? How quaint.

I’m waiting for the solid state teleporter option. I’m all 21st century (or is that 22nd century?)...

No USB 3.0, but it has an eSATA thing - so I'll need to look that up and see what I can connect to it.

Also it has a smart card reader, so that it completely useless I guess.

I ordered a Wireless Mini Keyboard thing. They are about $10 and I wanted to try one out.

Looking at a Dell E514DW All in One (Black/White Only) Laser Printer/scanner/copier. $95 shipped
Toner replacements are like $18.
