Yep, that pic was from about 7 years ago... the little guy in the background was annoyed by the putter of the engine. Loud engine noise you ask? Brings me to your next question, another build for a different forum:

http://www.mtdesign.com/cobra/ (528 Hemi, sitting on a late model Corvette chassis, wrapped in a Cobra replica body) - a bit quicker than the karts.

Wow! Nice looking kart yourself. I just saw this so my reply comes a bit late. The Red Talon was definately a hard kart to find parts for, luckily they still sell pneumatic wheels with the same 5/8 ID. I really like the black scheme you chose, looks like a nice glossy paint job too! Where did you aquire yours? Ive started on a new project. It's an old Manco 475 I picked up for $50 and im doing the same color black, with a touch of chartreuse! Here are some pics of the work in progress. 1st pic is how i found it.

HF Wheels? If youre talking about the harbor freight wheels then yes. I needed something to roll it on for the time being, both karts needed a cheap solution for now. They will get upgaded.

Local car painter sprayed the frame with extra paint when he was done with an Audi wagon I'm restoring (other projects keeping me busy: http://www.mtdesign.com/cobra/old_cars_v2.html). I found the Red Talon somewhere in TN, here is a better shot of the original:

Love the Manco project, good luck! I have a Grasshopper I'm starting on this month. Not a full restore, just getting it running and putting new tires/wheels back on it so I have someone to race. Should be an interesting match-up:

Black: 48T rear sprocket, single wheel drive, torque converter, 5.5HP
Green: 60T rear sprocket, centrifugal clutch, live rear axle, 5.0HP

Black should get off the line quicker and have a higher top speed, but the green kart should out brake and out corner. Would love to hear the estimates from the pros on the forum! I'll post Youtube videos of the race (sometime when the snow is finally gone)

Google gokartsrus. Click on parts dept. When you get to the site look at the upper left corner and click on manuals. Then towards the top of that page click on Manco. Scroll through the manuals and pick the one (or ones) that do or might apply and download. Find the one that fits your kart and then go back to parts and click on Manco and find the subcategory that fits and look for that part#.

If for some reason they don't have it....post back up.....

EDIT:It should be obvious- but I should have said....get the part# from the breakdown in the manual.

Thanks! Hopefully you understood That I meant the Red Talon. I was saying those are hard to find parts for. Not the Manco. Either way I will look into the Link. Thanks again for the help, sounds like a large repository of parts.

I'm almost finished with the black Manco. Thought I'd post a pic or two of the progress.

Grasshopper & Red Talon out to play!

Manco is shaping up nicely. What kind of engine are you dropping on?

Had both of mine (Grasshopper and Red Talon) out today as we hit 50 degrees here in the Chicago suburbs. Black one runs good although it's difficult to keep it running at idle. Green one has a warped sprocket so it vibrates a lot. I have to run it on stands and straighten it out before running again.

My racing team had a run at the Autobahn in Joliet IL yesterday and we blew the head gasket out of our Honda (again) so I have to transfer my focus back to that ride for a few weeks. Hopefully I'll get back to the karts before long...

Well I'm glad I don't live up there I don't believe I could take that much cold. We've been slowly eaking our way into spring it has been such a long winter here in the dfw metroplex and I am glad to see bluebonnets peaking their heads out finally. I bought an engine yesterday, did the harbor freight $99 special and got a predator 6.5 HP. Its a basic kart but I thought it deserved at least a new engine lol. Your " Talon" looks great. I like the wider stance on the wheels it makes it look a lot more stable. Here are some recent pics of the finished Manco. Just waiting on a chain, brake band, and clutch to get here and it should be road ready.

Looking good! Something highly addictive about taking old.stuff and making it better than new. ....
Thanks Poboy! Yes you are right. I was so surprised how much fun I had on the first build that I couldn't wait to get to the next. If I could find 10 more $50 broken down go karts i'll rebuild them until i'm blue in the face. Plus the reward is seeing my nephews face light up when he gets to ride them. It isnt exactly the thing kids are into these days, bu they need to get off the ipads anyway lol. I never got fun things like this growing up so its nice to make them new and shiny and show them off.
