Hi

We have a drifter II go-kart. The rear wheels locked yesterday whilst driving and the pull start is also locked. have checked the brake and that is fine, so it must be something going on with the engine - anyone got some advice?

Thanks all.

Start with pulling the starter off the side of the engine. See if you can rotate the engine w/ a large wrench / pliers. If no, then sounds like the engine is trashed. If yes, then your pull-start assembly is trashed.

Thanks. I have taken the starter assembly apart and it works fine, so sounds like bad news..........I'll investigate further.

Does the Engine turn over manually

Put a bar in the starter cup and twist it over

If it won't go easy then take the spark plug out and try again

Is the kart live axle or 1 wheel drive

I assume u have checked the bearings and chain
It would me best if u removed the chain so u can separate engine issues from driveline issues

If it's got a torque converter on it, see if the drive is still engaged (grabbing the belt) even while the engine is off. If it is, everything "locks" up.

Thanks for all of the good advice. I found that the engine had shifted just enough in a drift to tighten the chain tension which stalled the engine. The chain was then too tight to allow the engine to turn over. I find that we have to go around checking nuts constantly as they vibrate loose.
