So last weekend my daughter had a friend around, and they were riding the kart in the road with me supervising. They were taking turns, and when they got a bit tired of it, I said I would take a turn.

So I am zooming up and down the road, doing really sharp turns when turning round. You know when you turn real fast it feels like the back of the kart is swinging out...Well, I was doing that.

Apparently the stress on the shaft holding the wheel was just too much, and it snapped at the point where the bolt was welded to the axle. The wheel went rolling off into the neighbors gete, and I skidded to s stop riding on the sprocket. My daughter said she saw sparks. There is also a nice groove in the tar from the sprocket scraping along it. It looks like it was a really bad weld. I haven't taken the wheel of the bolt yet. I was just too bummed about it.

I am going to have to weld it back on again, but am not too sure of the best way to do it so that the wheel turns without wobbling, and fixing it that it doesn't break there again

What does everyone suggest?

Post some pics showing that whole corner of the kart so we can better understand your setup. I cant tell if you've got a live axle there or what?

Sorry, I know they are bad pics. My kart does have a live axle. I will take some more pics this weekend and then post them on monday. I am going to the beach :wai: this weekend, so I won't be able to do it sooner.

Here is another photo of the kart. You cant really see much more.

Then I'd try to replace the whole axle instead of repairing that break. Although if i had to repair it, I'd try to find a thick hollow sleeve that would tightly fit/slider over each broken end to act as a splint, and then weld that all up. It doesn't seem like just butt-welding the axle back together would ever be very strong.
