I am very confused with how the rear wheel attaches to the sprocket, brake, axle etc. also I was wondering how a drum brake attaches to the frame.

Wheels, sprockets, brake discs/drums all attach to each other via an axle and keyway or a dual hub. A dual hub allows you to bolt a wheel onto one side of it and a sprocket and brake drum on the other and have the whole setup rotate on a dead axle. Using a regular axle requires bearing mounts and individual hubs for each piece.
Also drum brakes usually have some mounting hoes on the side of the stationary piece.
Hope this helps
