From what I have read so far - Seems a lot of the frame size and what size of engine is all based on rear tire size.

What size of tire is to big for a mini-bike? This will be driven mostly on the street (not off road). I'd like to make one using a car tire but unsure how that would work.

Thanks -
Keith

At 18 inches, what is the widest you would recommend and how much power would it take to push it at a decent speed?

Once again it depends on how wide your frame is, you can get 18 tires that are 5 inches wide or 10 inches wide, with the right gear ratio and lets say a 6.5 hp engine you could probably get to 40mph but the acceleration might not be to hot. With a torque converter it would be easy.

I am going to build the frame. Trying to decide motor and engine to help me determine how wide the frame needs to be etc....

On my build I bought one of those 6.5hp honda clones and then started to collect stuff for it. I found a car spare and decided to build the frame around that, its 15"rim 24"OD 5 3/8" wide. My bike doesnt have super fast take off but it does haul a$$ pretty fast once its going.
