im beating my head in trying to figure out the best way to do this. im building a buggy starting with a spiderbox frame and a 2001 gsxt 750 engine. as you know the stock cart motor sits on the swing arm and moves with suspension. im not real hip on that idea. not sure if its the greatest thing for the engine to be bouncing around with the suspension. plus it will only make it harder to hook up coolent lines, shift linkage, ect. is there any decent way to keep the engine mounted on the frame and still have a live chain driven axle? im trying to avoid having jackshafts and chains running everywhere. i also dont want to extend the frame 3' to get a swing arm behind the engine. pics are a plus! thanks

As long as the centre of the engine sprocket is inline with pivot point of the swing arm, it should be fine. As long as it is build like a brick out house.

If you need suspension, the other way is independent suspension, which I would highly recommend with this engine.

With that engine forget the rear pivot idea, with that engine you could climb a tree! Independent suspension all the way, i gotta see a pic when ur done!

yes i have the engine and frame already. i was thinkin about independant but thats pretty sophisticated. im trying to keep it simple. but i might just do that..

to do and independent chain drive system youll at least have to get a couple cv shafts to hook up to hubs, it should be nominally easy to devise a way to link the other ends to the drive off the sprocket

this is a very simple independant suspension

it uses uni joints from a tractor and the corosponding shafts from it

the uni joints are not perfect they have limited travel and are only good to 140hp
in my buggy a 750 is on the edge of the shafts swl but yours is lighter so u will be ok

the shafts are perfect, imposible to destroy

u can buy shafts here
http://www.edge.au.com/Categories/Piranha_Standard_Rear_Suspension

or u can buy them from a agriculture supplier

oh and ignore the cat it was being very freindly

these setups are alittle steep for my price range. i cant spend 500 bucks on just shafts, im not really interested in these kind of setups. im more interested in chain setups. i saw a pic of one setup that was independant trailing arms and each had a chain driving a hub, and was driven off a jack shaft at the pivot point of the swing arm. this would be the only way i would do independant suspension right now.

Look on ebay, you can pickup CV axles for a good price if you look for a while. I recently got two Porsche 944 axles in good condition for $79.98 shipped.

I have a feeling you are looking to do something like this,

It would probably work fine, although the price for all those #50 sprockets would add up. You might also run into problems with snapped chains.

By te time u add up the cost of 5 sprockets 3 chains 12 bearings
6 hubs 1 long shaft 2 short shafts u end up with the same price

Only the system is far more complicated and far weaker

in post 12 of this thread what is being used in the center for the sprocket and brake disk ? i see the shafts are clamped to a shaft but was wondering if it is a special thing or what.
