Hey guys, I'm building an off road go kart will full suspension. For the rear I'm building a swing arm to mount the engine onto and just have that pivot. What type of shocks should I use and kinds have other people used? Thanks

Check out my thread, if you'd like: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10435&highlight=full+suspension+conversion

I call this suspension a "Dougthewelder" based on the first place I saw it here in Doug's thread: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5315&highlight=murray+explorer+project

Here are some teaser pics:

This is not the only way to go about a rear suspension, but I found it to be easy and simple. Hope this helps!

Edit- I think I'm just gonna start copying and pasting this response! I've used it so many times!

that is a trailing a frame type of suspension to my knowledge created by and for Catterpiller

that type of suspension is not the simplest but it is the cheapest way to get suspension like an older solid axle car

the only problem is it puts alot of strain on the dog bone (the bit across the back) if only one wheel hits a bump

Sorry for the lack of details. The engine is a 250 2 stroke that I got from my boss. The frame weights about 2 pounds, that's the frame alone, no seats or engine. Its going to be a 2 seater so a little more weight. I'm finishing welding the frame tomorrow hopefully so I'll post pics after that. DC i love your kart. Is the single mounting point for the swing arm very strong?
