Ok so can someone answer this for me? What's the difference in buying say a 1 1/4 axle vs a 40mm axle? is it just personal preference!

What kind of kart are you buying an axle for? (post some pics of your kart if your unsure)
_____________

1-1/4" and 40mm are 2 sizes of axles that usually come on 2 different types of race karts.

Race karts made for road-racing (R/L- turn pavement tracks) almost always have the larger 40mm diameter axles.

Race karts made for oval racing (dirt or pavement) almost always have 1-1/4" diameter axles.

I'm not really sure why they do it this way, but that's just the way it is.

Here's my road race (Sprint) kart with a 40mm axle:

It's more of a road racing kart! The kids and I will be using it mostly on pavement! We really don't plan on racing it more of a hobby and for fun! So should we use the 40mm axle then!

That frame may be worth enough to sell and then build a new kart entirely off of the profits. Margay stuff demands money.

It may be worth more as is than to be rebuilt with non-Margay parts. A full resto would bring big money, but to have non-original parts may make it tougher to sell. I really don't know, this is all speculation. Wait for Anderkart to chime in :)

Your kart would be just fine with a 1-1/4", or a 30/40/50mm axle.

I'm not sure what diameter axle your kart would have originally had, but I'd suggest you email Margay and ask: http://www.margay.com/company/contact.html They're very friendly/helpful and will give you all kinds of other good info like what length axle/wheel-hubs it had, the recommended/default ride-height adjustments, toe-settings, exsettera to make your Margay model handle, turn and work as well as possible.

I'd just ask what type axle they would recommend, and then also ask if they could include any other setup-info/specifications they might still have for your model. (find the sr# near your r/f spindle and include this in your email)

You might also ask if they have a good-used complete axle assembly for sale. (and any other parts you need)

If you used all genuine Margay parts, your kart would end up with more resale value...

Although pretty much all parts besides possibly the brake caliper and front spindles will usually interchange between most all brands of Sprint karts like yours.
