Hey guys. I've been trying to build my go kart since i was a kid. Now I got a 80cm3 gy6 scooter engine from my cousin. the weird thing is on the electrical wiring. So it has a CDI like this https://imgur.com/a/cCnvD9u
I did the wiring like in the picture BUT if the grounding wires are grounded to the engine, it won't start. if they are not grounded at all it starts but i can't keep it on for mor than maybe 5-10 sec and everything i touch gives me a shock. And i really don't know what the problem might be. Any opinions?

Off hand there seems to be an errant ground somewhere...
Is there a pinched wire somewhere in the case whereabouts the stator is???

I highly doubt that. The wires are good. And the thing is that i tried to make them as tidy as i could so i fixed a grounding wire to the engine and then i attached all the grounding wires to that one. so i made sure there was only one grounding point. But as i told you it wouldn't start. so i came back and just deattached that grounding wire from the engine and it started but it wouldn't stay running. i don't know if i make sense, but i try my best

I think we need more pics as to your current setup....
Is this a pulse(like ignition firing) or a steady current of power...

Some where there is a current induced to the frame/motor

You undo the grounds and its does start which tells us you probably have the kill wire grounded and lack of a kill switch(?) when they're all attached. Have you tried removing one ground at a time to see what happens? All grounds should go to the frame (clean the metal obviously) on their own seperate grounds close to the component location (unless the harness is designed differently) in my opinion and the engine block itself should be grounded to the frame also. There's a chance that you have voltage leak from the spark plug wire, coil or CDI in the form of a small crack that's letting it ground when it shouldn't. Yes pics would help as Mckutzy said, it's like wandering in the dark without them.

According to this diagram (IF it's accurate - looks to be) you're missing the regulator, note this empty connector and the wire colors that match the diagram.

True. But the regulator is for charging the battery and other stuff that is using DC current. it doesn't affect the engine's functionality

This is an excellent question/comment that gives a great lead to follow.

Electrical gremlins can be tricky to trace, I'd grab a multimeter and start tracing, testing and inspecting each and every white that's in use. Sometimes it just comes down to a bad component though...

Might not hurt to simulate a frame with a piece of steel and give each component (including the engine) it's own path to ground, that should help further isolate WHERE the issue it stemming from. You dont have a link to a wiring diagram for the motor do you?

Dont get me wrong, Im not complaining....I know it sounds like I harp on people sometimes about no pics....
But what we have been dealing with over the long time here, is things that are difficult to describe sometimes.. and pics is the way to go...

Im a little more interested in this subject now as I recently got a C70/loncin type motor, and the gy6 albeit are different, have similar wiring systems...

There is one more thing i can think of which is the electric choke i am not connecting to anything so far. Maybe that is what is killing the engine. But to know for sure i need to get a regulator like Brianator said

So quick update. I don't have enough info about how this works but maybe one of you guys does. i connected the grounding wires from CDI and spark coil only to themselves and if i touch the spark plug to some metal I still get a spark. but if i undo the grounding wires i don't. so, somehow it gets a grounding through the cdi unit. i don't know if this is normal. what do you say?

The electric auto choke for sure would be why it only runs for a few seconds. No there should not be any other way its grounded, what Mckutzy mentioned about maybe theres a pinched stator wire is making more and more sense as is the fact that more photos are helpful

Should i dismount the stator or what? From what i can see from outside, there is no pinched wire.

Remove the stator cover and have a quick inspection of all the wiring inside just to be sure. There's a short somewhere or something isn't wired correctly.
