okay, so I went to an auto parts store, couldn't find an exhaust band clamp! [haven't gone to Napa yet, but doubtful they got one]

welding is currently out of the question!

I was stupid an ordered this exhaust tip without ordering some sort of clamp, expecting it to just slide in or over... That turned out not to be the case!

well with a few smacks from the hammer, and slight stretching of the lip of the tip, I've got it maybe 1/2" over!

What do I do from here? I'm stumped!

If anyones's wondering, yes I did re-jet. Also worked out the airfilter to allow more airflow.

Also, yes this a project bike recently turned into a daily rider. Laugh all you want, only payed $1,500 for it.. [that's really cheap for my local area] and that was with it being delivered AND running.

Edit: should I just bite the bullet, and take my lose and order this?

If you really needed a fix by Monday, would a large hose clamp work temporarily?

Go to Home Depot and buy a U-bolt big enough to accept the exhaust pipe. The plates on them are flimsy and will conform to the pipe.
This is a quick temporary fix that should apply just a bit better hold than a hose clamp (although that's not a bad idea either).
If HD doesn't have the right one-Tractor Supply might.

A clamp my not compress the outer metal enough to get it to stay put. If this is the case, put a cutting wheel on your grinder, and cut 4 slots around the perimeter, 90* away from each other, maybe 3/8" deep- not enough to create a leak. Having those slots there will allow the metal to "shrink" around the pipe. Get it welded or buy a proper clamp when you can.

I thought about this.. but are you talking about the existing pipe [header?] or the new slipon?

Edit, the slipon is actually compressing the existing pipe ever so slightly, along side of it ever so slightly expanding itself, its a pretty tight fit, but I'm afraid 10k RPM is gonna vibrate/shoot it off going down the highway!

Well tie a string to it, because if your luck is anything like mine it will fall off one block down the road. The screws are foolproof-and you don't have to disassemble anything to add them.

How many you recommend? 2/3/4?

Just did two trips to ace and back, swapping U clamps.. It was to big, then ever to small. no in between. so I'm going to get some of these self tapping screws. are they the same thing as sheet metal screws?

Use a steel pop rivet . Just drop it in a drilled hole with popping it. put hose clamp over that. The ideal clamp is a T-Bolt Clamp . Try Hot Rod Shops for that. I have used this method too keep Megaphones on my Dragbike.
