Re: Lawn Mower To Go Cart Build

ok i had a post about this before and it got closed but since that i have a 14 hp idustrial/commercial over head valve briggs vertical shaft briggs and stratton engine. i have also gotten a go cart frame with everything on it but a motor its desiged for a horazontal engine but i think i can modify it a little bit to get the vertical shaft motor on it. i also have the rear end from the lawn mower. its a 6 speed. what should i do next? i am 16 and i have a friend to help me and i have a welder and grinder and all that good stuff.
ill try to put up some pictures next week.
any help is greatly appretiated:) thank you

dude you may want to not use a frome designed for horizontal. It would probly be easier to start fron scrach and make a new frame that will use your mower set up to its fullest advantage.

Based on these numbers, it doesn't look like it's possible to run this in vertical position. There is an oil pump in there and if cylinder is uprighted it may not have enough pressure to get oil up to rockers.
The only way to know for sure is to mount it in a test stand and run engine with rocker cover removed and visually check for oil flow. Make sure that oil pump is submerged in oil when uprighted. If it isn't submerged...well...they make really good boat anchors.
Anyway, I'd be very interested in result.

here the pics of the 5 hp go cart

heres the pics i told you i would pst.
The motor has the govenor rivited to the engine block and i put a custom exhaust on it made from some aluminim pipe. im gonna put some aluminum tape on the gas tank under the pipe. theres is no wheel on the front because the bearings blew out of it.:p this thing is really fast my next move on it is im gonna put a roll cage on it. i think its a pretty sweet cart for free
****This is the go cart with the carb to gas tank gasket problem in the "a couple ?s " thread

ok... back to the 5hp go cart...i got it running i was getting 50+ miles per hour in it SCARY FAST........but then the stupid thing caught fire:furious2: i found out it caught fire because it still leaks a little gas out from uner the carb and the exhaust pipe being so short backfired and caught the damn thing on fire and i was in a big dry feild in when it happened lol that coulda went bad but the breather tube that goes from the carb to the valves dident make it so off to eBay!!

You could put a mower drive system in that, add a v belt clutch to the engine, get a smaller pulley on the trans, come up with a auto belt tensioner and replace the whole back half of the cart with the mower rear end and engine, put the engine forward of the trans (as little as possible, use a short belt) so its balanced good. Then you need to put a shifter withing easy reach while you driving and you have an auto clutch(let off the gas completely to shift) 6 speed go cart with reverse.
