Razors vehicles...potential "crotch rockets"?

So I was browsing eBay and came across a cheap Razor electric scooter that was being sold for parts. I kept digging and then came across some better deals on the electric dirtbikes being sold "as-is for parts".

This got me thinking: would it be worth it to buy something like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Razor-MX65...m=292314615297&_trksid=p2047675.c100752.m1982 and then mod them to go fast? I was thinking drop in some lipos (I have tons of lipos and know how they work/dangers/proper charging/etc from my RC hobby) and have a potential "crotch rocket" for relatively cheap, with no mess and noise (dang neighbors) of a minibike.

So the razor mx650 runs off of 36 volts. A 6s lipo is 22.2 volts (more when charged fully). So put 2 6s in the bike for nearly 50 volts of power...seems like the bike would really wake up. Now I know there are limitations to the speed control and the voltage it can handle, and I have no idea what the runtime would be, but I was thinking it might be a fun project. Or, put 2 6s lipos for double the capacity for longer runtimes and maybe re gear the bike.


Any thoughts on this?

Hehe fair enough. Wow that motor looks very nice! I am thinking about buying the razor bike and getting the upgrade motor for it as a winter project.

So what approximate top speed can I expect for one of these systems on the razor dirtbike? I'm not a big guy (about 150lbs) so I'm thinking mid 20 mph?

Make sure you get the MX500 or MX650 (Full suspension) I have the Mx650 and ride the **** out of it. It is a blast for everyone from 6 year old kids to g'ma. Can easily fit another 12v 12ah battery for 48v.

Well guys, I caved and bought a Razor RSF650 (the street bike look with rear suspension) off eBay from one of those "for parts or repair only" sellers. Says the bike is all there. Might have a flat tire, might have a missing battery, or might just be missing one bolt. No way to know until it gets here! I guess I'll just wait and see

Probably going to get another battery for 48v and ride until I get bored of that, then do some major upgrading and get a 60v or so set up! I'd love to be able to run lipo batteries in it, as you can get some on sale from Hobbyking for fairly cheap.

First thing I do on mine is swap out the motor sprocket from 11T to 9T. Gives it a much needed increase in torque. I have a 1800w boma on my bench I still need to install as well.

As carsandcameras says, for a faster ride, lay off the junk food .

And when in doubt, add another battery. Looks like fun, but LIPOs are where it's at. I rode one once, basically a 49cc pocket bike like that but with a I believe was a MY1020 motor and a lipo pack. Holy did that thing MOVE!! I was scared to give it full rip for my own safety and it not being my bike. But boy was it fun!

I hear ya on lipos, I do RC as my main hobby and they are awesome. If I can get the bike running as-is, I'll just add another 12v battery and run it. It's so hot here in Ga now I'd be worried about using a lipo this time of year.

The Razor was waiting on my when I got home from being out of town! Came in a huge box!

It is in excellent shape. The electrical system might be messed up, but I don't care as I just wanted the frame. Plan to upgrade to a 48v system as it will be fast enough to be fun, but still cost efficient.

Well, the Razor RSF650 is complete.

I ordered a set of 4 12v 10ah batteries and got them wired up for 48v, as well as the kit off eBay with the variable speed controller and esc.

Did a few short runs already around the yard and it works well, except for the fact that it almost feels as if the motor is "slipping" (like a bad clutch would is the best I can describe it) when I try to pull a hill. I got it for the street so not too worried yet, but will look into it soon for sure.

Just need to get a charger and I'll be all set. Might be changing the motor sprocket for more torque but not sure yet. Once I ride it on the road I'll know more about the speed and torque.

I see a motor upgrade down the road as well, but if that means changing the whole controller/esc out then I'll just enjoy it for what it is!

I didn't ever add pics did I? My bad. I'll try and add some soon. I got it finished up and took it for a ride down the driveway, and then realized my rear tire is flat. The tube is messed up so I got to order a new one.

It's not that bike, it's the MUCH cuter RSF650.
